2 Newbie Questions: Basic vs. plus account and sign up for 1 month, 1 year, or 2 years?

I’m considering signing up for Nord now that my ExpressVPN subscription (which I’ve used for about five years) has expired. I’m hoping Nord will give me better speeds (I’ve heard it might be the fastest) and lower costs. Speed is more important to me than price.

I do have a couple of questions:

  1. Basic vs. Plus Accounts: I mainly use the VPN for torrenting, so the Basic plan seems fine. However, I’m curious about the ad-blocking feature that comes with the Plus plan, especially since Chrome’s ad-blocker extensions may soon disappear. Does anyone have experience with the built-in ad blocker on the Plus plan? Is it effective enough to justify the extra cost?
  2. Pricing Structure: I was thinking of trying it out first, but the pricing seems odd. The Plus plan is $15 for one month, $84 for a year, and $96 for two years. With such a small difference between one year and two years, and one month, it seems almost silly not to just pay for the two years upfront. But that’s a long commitment without trying it first. Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance!

First of all, Threat Protection Pro is only accessible using Windows and Mac devices. It is a pretty awesome feature, blocks trackers and ads, protects you from downloading malware, and checks for malicious websites. I am using it on my Windows device.

The pricing is of course for you to get a 2-year plan, however, you get a NordPass subscription with that deal as well. Moreover, you can test it for 30-days and check if it suits you as they have a 30-days money-back guarantee.

Buy prepaid card on Amazon, don’t get sucked into the auto renewal. Plus Amazon cards are usually cheaper

I also have the same question. I’m considering renewing using a different email address with the Reddit link, and wondering whether the Plus is worth upcharge. Both offer Threat Protection (are the both Threat Protection Pro, or is the later the one that comes with the Plus plan? And actually, I don’t really know which plan/version of NordVPN I am currently on. Is there some way to tell?

edit: my current plan appears to be NordVPN and NordPass Premium - which I never used. Interesting that the renewal rates even through your own account are sooo much cheaper then autobilled rates!! I wonder if they had changed them since I’m two days away from expiring?

edit2: The billing chart DOES differentiate between Plus as having “exclusive” Threat Protection Pro, while the Basic plan only lists it simply as Threat Protection, and not having the Pro box checked off.

Can anyone with just the basic plan confirm what is the Threat Protection associated with it?
