3rd party Windows VPN client for Meraki

Hi guys,

I’ve seen quite a few archived posts (which I can no longer reply to) regarding 3rd party VPN clients for Windows and Meraki client-VPN, and just wanted to add here in-case it helps someone else that we have tried out the DrayTek Smart VPN client as we saw it supports L2TP/IPSec tunnels and it does indeed work. We have a couple of users which have been running into a lot of problems using the built-in Windows 10 client, so it’s useful to have another option.

Cheers,

u/iamichi Thank you kind sir… you are a Gentleman and a Scholar

Or just use CMAK? Been using this for years with zero issues.

Thank you, I just tried it out and its probably the only time it worked the first time good find.

what profile settings did you use witht the DrayTek? I can’t seem to get it to connect to the meraki still.

pray they finally release functionality with AnyConnect and Meraki…

This allows for 4 different VPN connections to be made, if you just need to make one then you can remove the array and just assign your address to the server variable and move on. This creates a phone book and puts an icon on the desktop. We are no longer seeing the behavior where the popup from Task Bar won’t prompt for credentials. That is working now. We created 4 VPNs because we have 4 endpoints and wanted to give people options for potential outages in other regions.

The above allows for up to 10 Destinations on remote networks to be configured. If there is a better place for me to paste this for transfer-ability without formatting errors let me know.

How do you use this code? What do you run it with? (Apple House with a few windows machines).

This script didn’t change anything for me.

How do you enable it so that currently logged in credentials are passed through to the VPN entry so that the user doesn’t have to enter them?

Thanks a million for this it does work but the above modification would help me out so immensely.

Thanks, I hadn’t seen it mentioned in any of the posts I found, we’ll try that if we have any problems with the DrayTek client.

Second vote for CMAK. I’ve not had a single issue with it in nearly 5 years.

pastebin.com, a Github gist, or indent all lines by 4 spaces (or use the < > code formatting option in your post.

Thanks a lot for this, we’ve just tested it and it works perfectly so far. Much appreciated for sharing.

What was it supposed to change?

We have them enter them once and select the save box.

Edit: I will say that they don’t always work and occasionally you have to reenter them.

Yeah I know I’ve mentioned it around here once or twice but it seems to be the easiest and most reliable method, but probably the most obscure.

Unless you change your secret often, it’s basically set it and forget it. No extra software to install, you can have a desktop shortcut created automatically, and you can implement your company branding.

You are welcome, my rage was quelled by this script as well. It’s another guys script - I need to find him…so I can give him credit - we just hacked it up a bit for our network… Then I made it semi-distributable and available to our MSP who was having issues getting us a config that worked consistently across the Windows 10 machines.

It creates a vpn connection just fine but I still cannot connect to the Meraki vpn. The same issues persist as when I add the vpn connection through the tray or through the network adapter. I manually use rasphone.exe program to create it and same thing happens. Windows changes the settings automatically when i try to connect.
