8 Years ago today, The Elder Scrolls Online was released

Somewhere a potato has kept the servers running for 8 years.

I actually grabbed the name ‘Queen Ayrenn’ on release. I was a beta player and wanted the biggest trophy name. An admin forced me to change it. I hit the veteran ranks and quit the game about a week into playing.

I married my friend in game for the XP boost. He’s called General Tulius. His Ring of Mara still says he’s married to Queen Ayrenn

And I didn’t start playing until December 2021. I know I’m taking advantage of a butt-load of QOL upgrades that many others had to live without for some time.

I heard it was garbage at release. Love it now though, other than load times during events.

Still remember playing alpha/ beta way back then and struggling with cheesemonger. Think mounts were crazy like 50k at the time and everyone looked very similar.

I was disappointed when it was released. The isolated zones based on alliance (no One Tamriel), mandatory subscription, and a whole bunch of popular locations missing from the game (Vvardenfell, Summerset, large parts of Skyrim, some of which is still missing), but despite all of that, I started playing in 2016 and it is now my most played game ever, by a lot. Over 3,300 hours. It is a really great game now. There is so much to do from PVE, PVP, solo questing, crafting, housing, antiquities, dozens of zones and dailies. The game has come a long way and I believe hasn’t even hit its peak yet.

When the Imperial City expansion dropped it was the best time ever. I remember waves of each alliance pushing deeper into the sewers to finally meet in the middle.

The stress of carrying a large chunk of Tel Var and trying to make it back to safety with the threat of Nightblades around Evey corner. Good times.

It was a different time, when you ate worms and were happy. I really miss the cultural dishes. It was neat and I liked having moonsugar on my Khajiit. The cooking lost a lot of its soul when all of the dishes became less fantastical in nature.

Started playing in pandemic, got around 6k hrs now, this month I have 2 years of ESO and I can say I found my new mmo for the next years

TIL I share a birthday with ESO

I just started playing. Almost level 43 and still haven’t gone into a dungeon, there’s so much to do

Pre-ordered it and 6 characters and 8 years later, still have yet to finish the main questline

Anyone remember when the Glenmoril Wyrd Sisters (Glenumbra) spoke German by default?

The subtitles were in English but the sound VO was German .

Good Times.

8 years ago today I was in high school playing eso

i remember when it finally launched, i had early access. i worked night shift at a burn center (i’m a nurse) and worked the night before. i downloaded the game and setup the patcher when i got home, but i had to stay up to do that because of the time. then i went to bed to get some sleep cause i had to work again that night. i woke up very early, created my first character - an argonian nightblade in heavy armor with sword and shield named india-pale-ale. got through the initial tutorial and landed on bleakrock isle. logged off and went to work. played for a few hours when i got back the next morning, crashed and spent the next week playing as i had just finished working my 6 nights in a row. the game was so fun but in terrible shape. argonians were objectively the worse race, nightblades didn’t work at all - fully 80% of the skills didn’t work. but i was having a blast. i recently left PC to xbox because i had to sell my PC, and am really enjoying it on xbox. what an incredible game.

Still have my beta monkey pet.

Oh man i was one of the first 50lvls in my region, we made community since it was announced, played beta too
Anyway after i dinged 50, the veteran ranks were such a grind i coudnt get myself to it, i think i did vr7, took a break, they added craglorn i came back, i remember i got skoria monster set before i reached max VR. After some time i got vr12 and they increased it to vr14 or 16 and people had to farm the again. Twice born star was good set back than

Just started playing a little over a month ago and I very much regret not getting into it sooner. I’m absolutely addicted. It’s all I’ve been playing since I started it.

The OG theme music is still the best one they’ve made. I have very fond memories of the time after beta ended but before release, when the only taste of the game that I could get came from sitting on the log in screen listening to the theme on repeat.

I’m consistently underwhelmed by the new themes they come out with with every new expansion. They’re not bad, they just… can’t compare.
