Have an Alien at vacation place, and see it has the ability to Teleport a particular client. I want to tunnel my FireTV there back into my house LAN so that it can pick up the live TV feed from a Recast. Looks like this should be simple if I had an Amplifi router at the home end. However, at home I use a UDM with VPN already setup. Is there a way to do this?
If I’ve understood it correctly, you have alien at vacation
Home and a unifi set up at normal home? And you want to stream TV from holiday home to your normal home?
I don’t know about the streaming element; but you don’t need 2 aliens.
At home, you just need an iOS or android device with the teleport app installed. Connecting through that essentially puts you in the vacation home network.
From there I don’t know how you would stream live TV though. I’m guessing that involves other apps etc.
For simplicity sake, you would need an Alien at your house as well.
You would teleport the FireTV on your vacation Alien to your Alien at your house.
I don’t think UDM has the ability to receive teleport requests from an Alien.
This is what you would see on your Alien at your vacation house:

On your Alien at your house, select the Guest tab, and generate the code. Type that in on your Alien at your vacation home.
Hope that makes sense.
I think this response is non-responsive. The question is whether a VPN can be set up between an Amplifi router and a Unifi device. Maybe because the questioner knows Amplifi and Unifi are under the same parent company, even though the product lines are different. I believe they are not Interoperable.
While the Teleport app is handy for connecting your phone remotely over a VPN to your home router, Android phones are prevented from sharing that connection. In other words, turning on the phone’s hotspot doesn’t make the VPN connection available to other devices. The phone will only make the local internet connection available when tethering.
The solution to this is to have another Amplifi router at the remote location. A VPN connection can be set up between them, and the remote router’s wifi can offer the VPN connection to all wifi devices connected to it. That is something your cell phone with the Teleport app won’t be able to do.
I don’t know of any other product line that makes the advantages of using a VPN so accessible to non-IT types. Amplifi deserves a big gold star for this feature!
