I just set up my nordVPN account and my US proxies are working great, but for some reason it will not allow me to connect to any servers outside the US (which is where I’m located). Is there something else I need to configure in order to access the out-of-country servers? Any help would be greatly appreciated
So are you connecting through the IKE app, or are you setting up proxy servers? If it’s the app, switching the VPN protocols in-app settings would be the first thing to do when encountering connection issues. You may also want to check if there’s no firewall or AV software that might block the connection.
*I was able to manually add overseas DNS servers via network settings in System preferences (Mac), but still cannot connect to non-US servers through the IKE app
I’m having a similar problem. I can’t connect to any servers on any of my devices. I switched from WiFi to mobile data on my iPhone and tried but still the same issue. I’ve tried almost everything and googled everything, it’s starting to frustrate me.
I am attempting to use the app. I have manually set up proxy servers without issue, but for some reason can only seem to access USA servers (the speed and download presets work, also connecting to US servers) using the app. Any time I attempt to choose another country from the server list it tells me “user authentication failed” or “can’t establish connection”
What other settings have changed?
The app should handle the settings and create a network service per protocol. It may need a reboot the first time.
Inputting manual DNS on your general network service (WiFi/Eth) will not affect your VPN, DNS would have to be changed in app (and the macOS app doesn’t currently support custom DNS) or more advanced routing.
Mine corrected itself eventually without me doing anything. At first I could only connect to the ‘speed’ and ‘downloads’ defaults, but that got me through. Not sure if you’re able to use those, but maybe you can use the defaults until the other options miraculously open up. Cheers!
I might conclude that little snitch is blocking an essential connection, but if that were the case, wouldn’t I be unable to sign in to US servers as well?
I hadn’t rebooted so I tried that but the problem seems to persist. Signing in with the speed or download presets or to an American server works, but when attempting to sign into other servers (Albania, Argentina, etc.) it attempts to connect for a while and then says “user authentication failed”. I followed instructions from the nord site to manually sign into specific servers through network settings by adding a new VPN connection (named ‘nordVPN IKEv2’), and was able to access overseas servers that way (Japan, etc.) but this requires inputting different DNS addresses for each instead of being able to simply choose an option from the list in the app (it kind of renders the app useless to sign in this way, actually)
Yes, it’s a one way or the other situation. Sounds like you may be changing to many variables at a time. If you want to use the app you should stick with that to get it working and reset network changes you’ve made manually. If you want to set it up manually, you’ll have to do it all manually.
May be time to use that support line if you need clarification.
