Can't Transfer media -- Says I have a VPN but I don't

Hi – Whenever I try to transfer my media, the View app says “Turn off VPN or Wi-Fi hotspot…” I don’t have a VPN and my Hotspot *is* turned off.

Environment:
- Glasses are fully up-to-date, it did let me do a firmware update recently
- Samsung S21
- Android 14, patched 01 Oct.

I did succeed about 3 weeks ago. I don’t remember if I had the “VPN” message then or not.

Ideas?

Thank you – Ken

OK, I found it. DuckDuckGo has a fabulous new feature that disables apps from tracking you. They do even if you explicitly prohibit them from tracking you. MFers. But, that feature must operate as a virtual VPN. Once I turned the feature off and rebooted my phone, hard reset the glasses, etc. the import worked as before. FYI

The glasses cannot update if there’s a vpn, sounds like something changed in that time. Do you have something like duck duck go? You should reboot your phone

I have a work profile on my phone and when that’s active, I get the error you mention. It works fine when I pause work apps though.

Hi u/TheRealWambut!

We get that you are having some problems with transferring media as you are getting an error message.

Couple things that you can try and do to solve this are the following:

  1. Make sure the battery is charged to at least 20%
  2. Keep glasses next to phone
  3. Check needed permissions are enabled
    • Bluetooth needs to be turned on
    • Phone’s Wi-Fi is turned on
    • iOS specific permissions:
      • Bluetooth Access is needed
      • Local Access is Needed (iOS 14 only) in phone settings
      • Join Wi-Fi network
    • Android specific permissions:
      • Location services and location permissions in phone settings are at minimum set to “Allow while using”
  4. Power cycle the glasses. Power cycle does not remove any captured photos or videos on your glasses. It does not unpair the glasses from your phone or change any settings in the app.
    • Turn the glasses off and wait 30 seconds.
    • Slide the power switch towards the lens in the ‘on’ position. The notification LED will blink white.

If this issue persists, don’t be shy to contact our wonderful Support Team, so we can check how we can assist you further.

Bonjour, je suis également bloqué comme toi, je viens de désinstaller Duckduckgo de mon téléphone , j’ai même réinitialisé mes lunnette , mais j’ai toujours le message de VPN …

I do use GoDuckGo as my default browser, but I don’t have any explicit VPN turned on. Is this an issue? Plus, it all worked 3 weeks ago in this same configuration (minus any usual app updates).

THank you for the hint on DuckDuckGo. It helped me eventually solve the mystery. (see above)

Thanks – unfortunately, I don’t think I have an analogous situation.

Your “wonderful support team” won’t help me since I bought the glasses on Amazon. The Ray-Ban “Support” is nonexistent. I guess I’ll never see my photos.

I thought the Location setting did it. I updated it, rebooted my phone (just to have a clean start), power cycled and left the glasses on, turned on the View app. The photos started downloading. My heart began to sing. The dreaded VPN message came back and won’t go away. My heart sunk again.

One possibly-related issue, I get a “Spotify Connections” – “RB Stories 00CK is connected” message.

Great! I had a similar thing a few months ago, didn’t remember exacto what I did but messing with duck duck go fixed it
