Hi All. I am new to AnyDesk (switched over from TeamViewer) and I am looking for some help.
I use AnyDesk to remote into my home PC when I am away from home.
I have Norton 360 VPN on my home PC and whenever i have that activated, AnyDesk doesnt connect. When I don’t have the VPN activated, it works. Is there some settings i can play with so that i can have the VPN activated on my home PC but still connect to it via AnyDesk?
Thanks!!
That’s a Norton specific question. You’ll have to figure out how to allow Anydesk to connect through the Norton crap.
Source: absolutely no problems whatsoever connecting to Anydesk machines behind Wireguard, Softether and OpenVPN VPNs.
Thanks everyone! I need to play around with the Norton settings it seems and it’s firewall. Anydesk has actually stopped connecting to my home PC from outside of the home network regardless of if I have VPN turned on or off. So it must be a Norton issues.
@MintyFresh668 it’s more from an IP address issue where I don’t want certain websites tracking my IP
Maybe when you have a VPN that your IP address changes and nothing can connect to the NON-VPN IP address.
Does Norton VPN have a firewall?
The Virtual Private Network or VPN makes a connection from your home PC to a set of servers owned by Norton. The network traffic is encrypted by a software app on your home PC that is between your operating system (I assume windows) and the Network Interface Card or NIC. There are several VPN protocols, so the first thing is to see if AnyDesk isn’t compatible with some VPN protocols - they handle the encryption and some other network functions differently so may be scrambling something AnyDesk needs.
My next thought is why use a VPN on your home PC? VPN is about traffic encryption for privacy and security on an untrusted network, such as hotel WiFi. Is yours home network untrusted? Are you concerned with someone at home also on the network? It’s not about security over the internet as the step from Norton’s servers to whichever web server you are accessing ultimately is unencrypted. So if you’re accessing say the BBC - the step HomePC > Norton is encrypted (probably) but the step Norton > BBC is not. Nor would Norton > AnyDesk…
