Considering a move from PIA to NordVPN - yay or nay?

I’ve been using PIA for nearly 2 years now and haven’t had any major issues, except the following:

  1. Have removed chat support
  2. All but have abandoned configuration of its servers for Netflix access
  3. Similarly have confirmed recently they also can’t guarantee access to Amazon services.

Just wanted to know users thoughts.

Sidenote: I’ve read there may be some issues using the Windows 10 app - anyone confirm?

*yea

I moved recently from PIA to NordVPN. For me it was the horrible UI that PIA has that made me move. NordVPN is so much easier to use in touch mode on a tablet.

I’ve generally had no problems with PIA, while NordVPN has been a little wonky for me, but I’ve seen the support nightmares that others have with PIA. I can’t use my SONOS with NordVPN, but no problem with PIA. You may not have SONOS, but I bring it up as an example of the unpredictable problems out there - I have no doubt there are things that work with NordVPN but not PIA.

I made the same jump and have to say NordVPN seems way better for support and number of servers to choose from. Netflix and Hulu seem to work well from their servers and they have both west coast and east coast servers that run fine. The only warning I’d give is if you wanted an east coast server that would work with Amazon, Netflix, and Hulu for a streaming box (non-pc) you’ll be out of luck. They do have lots of west coast servers that will work with all 3 for a non-pc device though.

Working great for me! Solved my problems from Purevpn and PIA.

As a long time VPN user, I recently switched to NordVPN after a 3 day trial. I can say that I never trusted PIA as a VPN provider, and have had colleagues and friends get warnings and dmca notices from their ISPs even with using the VPN solution on their routers (maybe their logging policy isn’t so clear cut?). In some cases, even received notices from PIA that were forwards of ISP or DMCA notices because they cross-referenced their VPN provided IP with the timestamp and type of traffic.

I mostly recently switched over from proxy.sh to NordVPN largely b/c their windows application is FAR superior to “safejumper” and they have excellent chat support.

I’ve had many, including PIA. I’d suggest to try out Nord. Make sure you overlap and compare the servers that work on BOTH Amazon and Netflix (or any other sites that might cause issues with VPNs).

They updated the ui. What was wrong with it? Cant get much easier than pia ui. The only issue i had was the notifications while connecting/disconnect and that was fixed around .79

Only issue i have with it is there is no console to show connect time, disconnects etc for leaving torrents on overnight u gotta enable kill switch and that will kill everything if ur gaming or doing whatever. I doubt nord offers that but i have never needed to research another vpn because im very happy with pia. I pay i think 50$ a year.

One thing ive noticed is that nord is pursuing an aggressive ad campaign. A few of my fav youtube channels are sponsored and when i google pia and nord there is a clear bias for nord. Specifically, comparison reviews will point out that pia is based in the us and falls under gov jurisdiction. However, they fail to mention that pia doesnt keep server logs so that point is moot. Oh, my favorite is pia doesnt support netflix… have not ever seen this, maybe they were vpning outside of the us in which case that would cause some conflicts regardless of vpn. I am pretty sure netflix figured out people were doing this to bypass content restricts.

Within the past few months pia more than doubled their servers atleast in my ui. I cant really compare that to nords but that might have been a bummer if you were trying to route through a specific country. They have some super random ones now.

My isp will insta flag you and ive been using pia for around 18 months. PIA also doesnt keep logs (why do people keep saying that?) If they got dmca notices then their connection most likely didnt kill switch so if a disconnect occurred the torrents would fallback onto your normal isp and would resume before a vpn reconnect. This happened to me before i realized i could enable that feature for leaving torrents going overnight, although disconnects have become more and more rare as time progresses.

Also… if any isp can cross reference your vpn ip from their server that would completely negate the point of using a vpn. I dont think isps are capable of this, most governments dont even have this capability. The data is encrypted… so please elaborate.

I gotta call bullshit on your friends.

Mostly to test out how good and responsive their support is, but also because i wanted a geo mapping of their server id# and locations. They were very helpful in sending that over.
