I seldom stream shows and just torrent shows (without vpn) if not available on my subscriptions.
I see no advantage of using a VPN save from protecting my privacy and hiding some of my questionable readings on AO3 from my ISP.

Like most sites nowadays, AO3 use HTTPS, your ISP only see you’re visiting AO3, they don’t see your username, what story you’re reading etc.

I only use it 1) to access region-locked content, 2) check flight prices, 3) when using public WiFi, and 4) when the occasional curiosity strikes and I absolutely do not want a search to be tracked.
Hi OP, you might want to look into Kodi + Real Debrid or Stremio + Real Debrid setup.
If you’re already paying a subscription but still find urself torrenting, why not pay to gain access to high quality torrent libraries through debrid services? This would even cost less vs Netflix UHD and youd get access to majority of the selection from other subscriptions.
In any case you’re interested just lookup Stremio + Realdebrid setup on reddit.
on some cases it is useful, for example when your internet suddenly slows down even after restarting or in some games vpns can be a life saver improving lag times since ph isp routing is really bad sometimes.
If you’re pirating shows only no need to vpn what you need is a good eye in telling if the downloaded files contain viruses. As a precaution always scan the newly downloaded episodes. Alternatively you can download a free antivirus like the free version of malwarebytes to scan other than that if you are mindful of what you click you’re fine.

Even, i have a friend who work for the defense in a europeen country, who told me vpn not even really protect you because if a country ask the files on someone, the vpn give them without question, because they don’t want risk a ban or something worst than lose one guy !
