Planning to travel to China in a month. I need nord VPN for access to some of my school related stuff. Does it work in China?
No. Hasn’t worked for years now despite claiming it does. None of the workarounds work either
From what I’ve seen on their support pages, it looks like you might be able to connect, but you’ll need to tweak some extra settings or connect manually.
Nope, was lied to by Nordvpn advertising, it does not work at all in China no matter what combination of settings you try.
Depends on region / time of travel / ISP. Level of censorship varies. In Shanghai I was able to connect using obfuscated servers on UDP before June 3 this year, no luck for a week after that. Some ISPs like China Telecom are more aggressive with blocking suspicious VPN traffic. The best way is to use a foreign sim with roaming.
Currently in China and no, it doesn’t work at all. Last time I went was in 2018 and it worked fine, using obfuscated servers even used to bypass pay pages on WiFi logins giving free WiFi.
In 2024 though it doesn’t connect at all. Which is a shame as one of the reasons I’m still a member is for when I travel to china.
Another Nord product, Saily does work though. It bypasses all restrictions through mobile data. 
Not sure how Nord can get that working but not their VPN product. I just have to be careful with how much data I use.
