Express VPN does not work on apps on my smart tv.
I had to download a browser on my smart tv.
Then turn on the express VPN app.
Then use the web browser and go to a website.
What sort of apps? I’m using ExpressVPN on the Aircove Router. I have a Vizio Smart TV & Roku accessing the internet through ExpressVPN.
I have Sony Bravia 4K VH2 XR-55X90J
I have the express VPN app installed on it.
I installed express VPN , paramount+ , peacock , the NBA app in June.
I subscribed to paramount+ and peacock.
I didnt subscribe to the NBA app but I did change the locations.
It never did work on peacock live tv NBC through the peacock app.
It worked on paramount+ live tv CBS through the paramount+ app until recently.
It use to work with the NBA app.
I dont know when it stopped working with the NBA app.
I live in the U.S. but I want to change the locations of the live CBS and NBC.
Try watching YouTube with ExpressVPN using Cuba as the ExpressVPN Server. (no advertisements!)
That’s super strange. I have a pretty similar xr-65x95j connected via Ethernet with native Netflix and prime along with downloaded express VPN, peacock, Hulu, MLB, Espn+ and side loaded iPlayer, Stan, and France.tv apps all working fine as long as I activate the VPN first. I’m not in the US but the only time have trouble is with regional game blackouts on MLB streams. For those I have to pick specific cities within the US vpn offerings to stream a particular baseball game I want to see.
I have the same TV and annoyingly it won’t allow ExpressVPN to autoconnect. You have to turn it on manually each time you wake the TV up.
I dont know Cuban.
I only know English.
Youtube you have to hope someone uploaded the show and the full episode.
If I was worried about adds.
Id use my laptop and use add blockers.
I use a wireless router.
I have paramount+ , peacock , Disney+ , hulu , max bundle through Disney+ , CW , starz, frndly , NBAapp ,MGM+ , prime video , netflix . apple tv+ freevee , crackle , roku channel , tubi ,fandago at home, redbox , pluto tv , xumo play , google tv free channels , youtube.
I want iplayer because it has stuff brit box doesnt have.
The apps that the VPN doesnt work for me with is paramount+ , peacock , MGM+ , netflix , apple tv+ , the NBA app.
Disney+ has issues when the VPN is turned on.
Paramount+ has live tv CBS where you can watch CBS live.
The VPN doesnt work with paramount+ .
CBS airs different programing at different times of the day in different cities of the country.
Theres programming exclusive to certain areas.
Prime time shows are the exception.
Peacock has live tv NBC where you can watch NBC live.
The VPN doesnt work with peacock.
NBC airs different programing at different times of the day in different cities of the country.
Theres programming exclusive to certain areas.
Prime time shows are the exception.
Also syndicated shows may be on either CBS or NBC or ABC or Fox at different times of the day and different cities.
but ABC and Fox doesnt live stream like CBS and NBC does.
So if you want to watch a syndicated show you have to watch it on in a city that has it on CBS or NBC.
or say you want to know whats going on in a certain area you can choose CBS or NBC for that are because remember ABC and fox doesnt live stream.
As for the Disney+ app every time I choose a location I have to delete the cache , delete the data , uninstall and reinstall or it gives an error.
I have the Disney+ , hulu , max bundle through Disney+ .
I want the cinemax hulu add on because it has all of cinemax’s shows but 2 while max and prime video has only about half of cinemax’s show’s.
MGM+ , netflix , apple tv+ , the NBA app detects my real IP address and gives me my location instead of the VPN location.
NBA league pass only has blackout restrictions in the U.S. and Canada outside the U.S. and Canada they dont have blackout restrictions.
I assume that applies to MLB also as well.
So pick a country outside the U.S. and Canada where you know the language and you wont have to worry about blackout restrictions.
I dont know how to side load other than to hook up a device like android , google , amazon fire , apple , roku devices ETC to your tv and downloading apps from those devices to your tv which I havent done.
The VPN works for me with Starz , frndly , max the different menu screens are in English for me even if I pick a non English speaking country , prime video the different menu screens are in English for me even if I pick a non English speaking country , freevee , crackle , tubi , roku.
CW , starz , frndly are U.S. only apps.
I tested them by selecting a country outside the U.S.
Freevee and roku must only be available in certain regions.
If you use the VPN for max and prime video you will get a traveling message.
Prime video the travelling message stays.
Max the travelling message is only there for a few seconds.
You have to clear the cache and data to change the location for max and prime video.
I do turn the VPN manually on and off for each app.
It doesn’t change the YouTube videos, but advertisements never play! Unfortunately many other apps will say “Content not available in your area” I also use Montreal Quebec (French Speaking) this suggests that advertising should be in French for mostly Canadian products. Not so annoying if you don’t understand what they want to sell you that you don’t want.
In the past year I’ve been slowly moving my streaming over to my Apple TV box. Since iOS 17 apple has allowed vpn apps and most of the major ones including express now have apps. AppleTV is the only iOS operating system that allows multiple Apple IDs to be present and easily selected with the remote. I created Apple IDs in the countries where I needed to download a country specific streaming service apps like iPlayer, Stan and France.tv. That saves the complexity of side loading those apps and their updates. I set the Apple TV to stream at the original frame rate and resolution and let the Sony do its processing on the Apple supplied high bandwidth hdmi signal and get better picture quality vs the side loaded 50hz processed by Sonys google tv apps.
Yes “Content not available in your area” as in geo/region blocking/locking.
That should be illegal in countries like the U.S. , Canada , UK, Australia , New Zealand and any other country thats suppose to have freedoms , rights , liberties.
Thats suppose to be what VPNs are suppose to prevent but doesnt seem to work on smart tvs like they do on the web.
The only thing by apple Ive ever used is the apple tv+ app.
The only android/google Ive ever used was bluestacks and my tv.
So I dont know much about apple and google.
Other than what it is I dont know anything about side loading.
I think I will stick with dongles.
I will stick to English speaking countries.
It’s a Cat & Mouse game. They make a list of known VPN addresses and block them. Some VPNs are more complex and change their addresses frequently. I need a VPN at work, I have free wifi at the hotel I work at, but it’s not secure. My employer or anyone trying to listen in could do so.
Yes its cat and mouse.
Apps and websites blocking VPN addresses.
Apps , websites buffer and dont load when VPNs are turned on.
VPN addresses dont work and apps , websites detect your IP address when VPNs are turned on and you get your location for the app , websites.
When netflix started their VPN crack down I heard express VPN was the only VPN that worked on netflix.
Free wifi isnt safe , secure.
What Im getting at is if I choose a location on the express VPN app on my tv then go into another app the VPN doesnt work.
but if I choose the same location on the VPN app on my tv and then go to the app’s website on my tv instead of the app the VPN works.
