Firewalla Device VPN

if you have setup a client VPN and assigned it to specific computers to use, is there an icon on some sorts on the device confirming you are on the VPN?

is there a way to toggle to disable the VPN from that decide or is it all controlled at the dashboard?

Only wireguard at the moment has the concept of a “device”. You can learn more section 4 of this article https://help.firewalla.com/hc/en-us/articles/1500004087521-WireGuard-VPN-Server-

Probably depends on the client device. On my Apple clients, a small box labeled “VPN” appears next to my battery level icon when I switch to VPN.

I wonder if we are talking about the same thing. What I’m understanding is that you setup the Firewalla with a client VPN and assign devices to it. They are on your home network but vpn when they go out to the internet. This is the VPN client in the Firewalla app.

In that case the devices don’t know that they are on a VPN and just send their data to the router which then forwards it to the vpn service. The device cannot turn it off or really detect it. You can check your external up address but cannot bypass the vpn since the router is controlling it.

Thanks, and on your apple devices can/how do you toggle between the VpN connection being on or off from the device?

Yes, I was hoping there was an icon on the device screen that confirms you are on the VPN connection.

Settings > VPN (slide toggle on/off)

I love that it’s so easy on Apple devices. I’ve no experience with Android.

There’s no icon, but you can confirm by checking your external ip. For example using https://whatsmyip.com/
