[Free Resource] Pimsleur is actually free if you live in California (and probably other states too)

I wanted to add an audio series to my learning so I can practice while driving and walking my dog.

After much research I discovered that the San Fransisco Public library offers the full collection of Pimsleur in its eLibrary. To be a member you just need to reside in CA and visit the library to kick off your membership. It looks like the LA library has a similar deal.

I get excited about these deals and especially because Pimsleur is usually $300+, this is a great resource and I wanted to share.

Cheers and happy learning!

I burned Spanish CDs from the library years ago. Saved a lot of money!

me who just moved to San Francisco

Oh shit that’s cool

The Hoopla app can also give access to your library’s audiobook collections, which can include language learning audiobooks/mp3 files. You can log into Hoopla with your library card information and it’s completely free.

My library has audio-only language learning materials which I can listen to on my commute.

Also look for Mango Languages. They licensed the Pimsleur method for a while and it’s free via most libraries’ digital resources. It’s like Pimsleur in app form with text aids.

Got to save this for letter when I get back to LA.

LA has a ton. I use the Libby App to listen for free. You can add library cards from all around the US.

it’s free for everyone, just pirate it.

If your library doesn’t have Pimsleur just remember that a few months on the app is way cheaper than buying the actual courses.

My old town in New Jersey had free Rosetta Stone for pretty much all languages. So many libraries have language learning resources. Libraries are so underrated.

Free at the Escondido library down near San Diego too! It’s usually checked out on the digital library so I subscribe online, but still it’s a wonderful public benefit

Most of the libraries I’ve visited in California have either Pimsleur or Rosetta Stone collections on CD as well.

you can also just torrent it

Also available on Hoopla if you’re in Ohio!

Now you can learn all the words for natural disasters as they close in around you

Awesome!! Our tax dollars going to good use!

That’s not any different than ripping to MP3, but now it’s on a worse format (physical CD). May as well torrent the courses

Enjoy SF! There’s many libraries where you can kick off your membership!

My library also has mango! It seemed cool but I felt like I couldn’t do it while driving so I moved on. I’m glad you find it to be a good resource!

There’s also a thing SF has, called Hoopla, which doesn’t have a limited number of copies (unlike overdrive) so you don’t need to wait for it to be available. Either way, I’d say it’s worth the wait if you’re not having to pay
