Hello! I am working on translating a german research article into English for my PhD research and have run into a bit of an issue with the translation. While going through the paper I keep running into the abbreviation “Vpn” in the middle of sentences, and whenever I look it up it just gives me information about Virtual Private Networks in Germany. An example with it: “An dem Versuch nahmen sechs weibliche und vier männliche Vpn im Alter von 21-30 Jahren gegen Bezahlung teil. Alle Vpn hatten normale Nah- und Fernsehschärfe.” → “There were 6 female and 4 male participants aged 21-30 who participated for compensation. All participants had normal near and far visual acuity.”
My best guess is that it’s short for Versuchspersonen, or research participants, but am I missing something? If it helps, it’s a Psychology research paper from 1989. Thanks!!
