Help with setting up qBittorrent with VPN Unlimited

I’m using VPN Unlimited which used to be able to torrent at relatively good speeds on utorrent, then when I switched over to qBittorrent I realised that whenever I use my VPN, I am unable to connect to anything in qBittorrent, while I still have internet access. Maybe I did not set it up properly, and would like some help with this

I don’t know why but when using specifically qBittorrent and VPN unlimited native client it doesn’t work - you need to use the Wireguard configuration file from your vpn unlimited profile

tl;dr:

- download wireguard

- get your wireguard configuration file from vpn unlimited panel in the section “Manual Configurations”

  • Server: [Torrents]Romania/ [Torrents]France/ [Torrents] Canada-Ontario
  • Protocol: Wireguard
  • Click “Generate” (for the first time i did not notice that file downloads right away and the site does not notify you that it did and just refreshes the site. so notice that you will have the configuration file the downloads)

- click on the “Import configuration file” you just downloaded inside Wireguard and connect

- ???

- profit

I left it pretty much at default settings. Is there some specific setting I need to change? Tried setting the network interface to my VPN but it still doesn’t seem to work at all, even after restarting qBittorrent, so I left it as all interfaces. I also enabled force reannounce when port or connection changed. I also randomised the ports, am I not supposed to do that?

Just an update - not sure what happened with my internet connections as I thought when I originally set this up, only qBittorrent was using the WG tunnel but after a few days and a reset of all ethernet adaptors, I was connecting all internet traffic through the WG tunnel (meant for torrents only through a torrent connection at VPN Unlimited). This slowed down my general internet connections, which I didn’t want. I found this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/VPNTorrents/comments/zbrwpn/guide_windows_wireguard_split_tunnel_then_bind/

Using the split tunnel with the suggestions to tweak the CONF file suggested in that post, only qBit connects through the tunnel now and my regular internet speeds are back to normal. Just in case anybody else needs that info here…

yeah happened to me too this month. just did the whole process again and it works. they have probably changed server ip or something

Hello. Thanks for the sharing. And I came across this Reddit Post too trying to find a solution to the VPN Unlimited, WireGuard, and qBittorrent. I have the WG config file from VPN Unlimited, I also have the WireGuard client installed and the config file imported, I then reset my qBittorrent client and chose the WG interface in the settings and leave all other things at default. However, my torrent client still doesn’t work. It cannot load the metadata from the torrent file, nor does it detect any other nodes for download. Do you have any ideas? And when I close the WG client and disconnect VPN, the torrent client will work again. <<< Though I won’t have any VPN protection. I am lost. lol Have you ever encountered this situation? Thank you.

ah nice, so did you reinstall wireguard? or just the config files?

instead of reset maybe reinstall qbittorrent, that’s what I did and currently it is working for me.
Also in wireguard in the transfer location do you actually have an amount received and sent.

just delete and import the new config with the new configuration, wireguard is innocent

Hey, thanks for the suggestion. I actually resolved the issue too. I just navigate to the local %appdata% folder and delete the qbittorrent configuration file, and the torrent app works again. it turns out the app config is interfering with the VPN client (regardless of using VPN unlimited app or the WG app).

Still ain’t happening for me, thanks for the help.

I went back in and generated the manual configuration files for the 3 torrent servers.
Can’t even get the French or Canadian ones to start a speed test.

In terms of the files, you just generated the .conf files from your account?
Imported them into wireguard and then activated them to kick things off?

yep, just deleted all my old wireguard configs, in my account vpn panel i have picked protocol wireguard, server romania [torrents], importet them into wireguard and pressed start.

but do other servers beside the torrent ones work for you? because since you say that you can’t even do speed test or anything, this seems like wireguard/OS/firewall configuration issue. windows is very often sensitive regarding network/vpn configuration when some new software installs or there’s some breaking update

if i were you i would do this:
-uninstall wireguard, uninstall vpn unlimited, restart computer
-install vpn unlimited, install wireguard, restart computer
-do the configuration for the torrent server from the panel only then

EDIT: one more thing comes to mind, when you connect to a wireshark server and go about testing the connection: either do so in a new incognito window, or restart your browser altogether, and/or open up command line and write “ipconfig /flushdns”

EDIT2: also, make sure to have ALL of their servers imported, because often 1/2 of them don’t work. for example, at this time of testing, france and romania are not working, but canada is

Went through all that and seems the issue is wireguard, if I run VPN limited on it’s own then there’s no problem.

The same server through wireguard is unable to get going so not sure where the issue is on that end.

yeah, they have some config files messed up right now, i have reported their non-working wireguard server configurations for france/romania. the canadian one works though!
