Hey guys! I am trying to run a few websites on my linux server. I was wondering if it is possible to run them on a free proton ip. I am using caddy and everytime I route the ip. It just says website cannot be reached. I am just wondering if that is a premium feature or if there’s any workarounds. Thanks!
Ummm…You do know that Proton’s IPs are not unique to you right? That they’re shared with hundreds of customers at any one time.
If you want to host a website using Caddy on your server using your own IP, use this video as a guide https://youtu.be/WgUV_BlHvj0?si=vHi-wxxKu7OTnWu6
You can’t host a website on ANY VPN IPs, that’s not what a VPN is for
Use cloudflare and host it on your network. Or buy a server.
The Free tier of ProtonVPN is designed for you to test the service out and see if it meets your needs. It is NOT designed for you to use all day every day, torrent from, host servers on etc… If you want features like that they you need to pay for the service, and even then hosting servers really isn’t a VPN option.
I think what you are looking for is onion routing.
Even with a paid account, I can’t see this working very well. You’ll be getting a different port each time, so anyone visiting your site would have to know what port to append to their URL each time.
If you want to host content anonymously, you might want to take a look at Proton Drive (free up to 5GB of storage). Here’s an example of some content banned in Italy:
Not that I would encourage it, but then how does port forwarding in ProtonVPN work?
haha that example
Sticking this on a T-Shirt and booking a flight to Italy, Wish me luck!
By saying
Not that I would encourage it
It sounds like you don’t know what port forwarding does Port forwarding | Proton VPN
Typical Proton circle-jerk: getting downvoted for asking a question.
That is a terrible idea. At least encrypt it before putting it on the shirt.
Nothing to do with Proton, that’s just Reddit…
