How do I use CloudFlare to access the internet as if i were at home from China?

I’m moving to China for work, and I need to have a reliable, fast connection to the internet to allow me to continue working part time remotely, and to access Netflix etc as if I was still in my home country. Is this possible? I don’t want to rely on VPNs as they are notoriously expensive and unreliable. I really hope someone can help me get this set up correctly!

You can’t. The VPN capabilities that Cloudflare provides do not allow for tunneling through the China firewall. The Cloudflare China Network is for all intents and purposes a completely separate network and doesn’t offer all of the same features.

Not to mention the China Network is only available to organizations that hold an ICP and need to be on an Enterprise plan. Sorry.

If you’re trying to improve access to a specific site or webpage that uses Cloudflare while in China, you can accelerate its performance with a solution like this: Cloudflare China Acceleration.

Well…I mean I guess if you host your own services behind your own website and put that on CloudFlare, because the firewall isn’t going to instantly blacklist it i would assume…but even then say you were doing that with your media…if you try and stream that it’s violating CloudFlare conditions for your free account(not sure how much/when it’s cost effective to upgrade for this). And this would be for your own media collection rather than using someone like Netflix which I wouldn’t even bother with personally…I’d try and collect/digitise what media you wanted to serve, but a website use CloudFlare tunnels to connect to it,.password protect said programs you would be using, and go from there. You could host your.own version of overseerr (or whatever) this way too. Then if something catches your fancy use that program in conjunction with various rr programs to watch through your own media server hidden behind your website…sorry for the drivel, I’m typing as I’m working out what I would do lol

Are there any other options available?

Thank you very much! I’m looking for any possible solutions that I can start researching

Not from Cloudflare. And I’m not sure who else might. I think you’re going to find that the China firewall is the limiting factor. It’s not something any provider is going to be able to overcome either. The Chinese government has very strict requirements about what can and cannot cross the firewall. Encrypted tunnels are at the top of the list.

I hope you find what you’re looking for but I don’t know where you’re going to find it.

Ok. In that case. Look up on YouTube ibracorp videos on CloudFlare tunnels.
Buy a website domain. Add it to CloudFlare(video above will help with specifics)
Assuming you have a computer / server at home. Look up/research(many options so no way exhaustive): overseerr, radarr, sonarr, and depending on how you’re going to acquire either sabnzbd and/OR(of lower on time maybe) Deluge or equivalent.
Research, ask questions if needs be, have fun!

The reason I asked, is because I’ve seen other posts that talk about renting a VPS and using AWS, cloudflare etc type services to access their home LAN.

Perhaps there’s a step I’m missing?

I’m sorry - I don’t know what they could be referring to. Cloudflare doesn’t provide VPS servers. It’s not their business model. They are primarily a content delivery network and DNS provider. They sit in front of servers and price proxy services to secure and accelerate applications. They do have VPN solutions in their portfolio but they do not offer the VPN services in China.

If you find someone that claims they’re using Cloudflare for this type of functionality, I would be interested to learn more but as someone that works with their products every day, I don’t know what they could be referring to.

Good luck! I hope you’re able to find what you’re looking for!

How long before you move?

August, so I’ve got a while to learn!

Aw sweet. Plenty of time then. Feel free to message if you get stuck
