Hi I’m heading to China in 2 weeks. Freedome has this “multi destination” plan which covers China.
Anyone out there who has used this plan and roamed in China?

I’ve roamed in China last August but not with this plan but on freedom. I roamed in several cities, Guangzhou, Beijing, Shanghai etc. It was fine but because it roamed on China Telecom or Unicom it was firewalled!! I ended up using an esim from HK.
Just returned from China last week. Roam works perfectly without a hitch. Not firewalled at all.
The honkong esim + “freedom using cellular data” would be the best option if you will be going to mainland China.
The best option is to use a local SIM (it’s insanely cheap) and any VPN over at r/ChinaVPN. Also if you’re staying at a hotel your data access should be unfiltered there.
Works fine in China and has no firewall. Just that it’s LTE only, no 5G.
It’s only firewalled if you use a local sim. Freedom sim should be unfiltered as it routes the data back to Canada first.
I had no problems with Koodo or rogers roaming. I imagine freedom is the same.
It’s mainland China which has the firewall.
Many social media sites are blocked - so you might not be able to access those.

It was firewalled through China’s firewall. I could not access international apps like Facebook and WhatsApp. You can access local sites and apps fine (Alipay, WeChat, Didi, Spotify etc)
Yes but if you roam with your freedom sim you would be connected to the freedom servers in Canada. You will get a Canadian IP address and be able to bypass the firewall
It is assumed you would, however as one poster pointed out, that wasn’t the case for them in mainland.
Well it was the case for me during my stay there. Plane touchdown, turnoff airplane mode and everything works like a charm.
Maybe they had a VPN on. That could cause problems if not turned off.
