Hi friends, I see a lot of posts regarding porn addiction (not on this subreddit, but I thought I’d share). While there are many steps to combat it, getting rid of any easy access to porn, will help you be more sustainable in this journey. Here is a way you can block porn for free, in a safe way :
a. Change your DNS settings on your computer or phone to 1.1.1.3 (this will block all malware and adult sites). All other sites will still work perfectly, and it’s a free service. You don’t have to install any program, just change your DNS and you are done. It’s provided by Cloudflare, who is the 2nd largest DNS provider in the world after Google.
b. FLEE from temptation. We cannot fight temptation head-on, so we flee from it, just like how Joseph ran away from Potiphar’s wife.
c. Bring every thought into captivity of Jesus Christ.
d. Have a friend as an accountability partner (there is absolutely no shame here).
Important note: if you use an iPhone and Safari and have “Advanced Tracking and Fingerprinting Protection” enabled for private browsing, it will bypass the custom DNS. You can disable this feature by going to Settings > Safari > Advanced > Advanced Tracking and Fingerprinting Protection.
Also, if you want to ensure that you configured everything correctly without going to an adult site, Cloudflare does have a test domain: https://nudity.testcategory.com/. You should see an invalid address error page.
TBH, the “fireproof” method (a la. taking the computer out back gangster style) if highly effective for SO many problems. Nuke the iPhone for a flip phone and you’d be amazed just how many problems disappear, and how much your life will improve!

Not just useful for blocking yourself. OpenDNS’ logs tipped me off to an uninvited guest on my network. Went into my (admittedly older) router and discovered that someone non-technical enough to not bypass my DNS filter was technical enough to use a (scripted? paid?) service to hack my router and register their Asus router as an _ethernet_ connection to my device. Made it impossible to block based on MAC b/c that only applied to wireless connections. Quite the feat imo. Stay away from DDWRT-2200 ACM - the Linksys firmware is hackable.
And it definitely wasn’t me or mine. The user tended to be most active while we were in church - definitely not on the home network (and no home VPN - well, besides the makeshift one created by this intruder).
My solution was to buy a new router, picked one at Best Buy that did _not_ include any ongoing subscription while providing some security features. ~$300 Still haven’t gotten around to setting up my locked-down and logging DNS cache so I can know which systems are asking for which addresses and so sus out any other bad behavior (inner-join with IPs accessed as logged in the router and now I can spot any IPs that were not found via DNS, i.e. beacon endpoints).
Does this allows the dns manager to have access to what we are surfing or Maybe even the data that is flowing through? Could it be used by hackers to steal info
Hi I used this and it worked. But I’m not gonna lie I’m kinda nervous because I don’t really know what I just did. What is this really? Like how does changing a few numbers in settings stop porn from popping up? Am I sharing a network with some company? I’d appreciate any information on this. Thanks in advance.
