Humble Software Bundle: Cybersecurity: Threat Protection with Avast

I’ve installed Avast three times on my computers over the years, and each time I angry-uninstalled it.

Ah, Avast that sold every click on every site for 100 million of its users without their knowledge or consent? That one? Avast - Wikipedia

Yeah, they can get fucked.

how good is their vpn?

Coincidentally used their (trial) driver updater today. 71 pence well spent.

Curious about one thing: can the mobile codes be stacked?

Or do they overwrite/not even get redeemed once you have 1 activated

Basically this is a bundle for those using the free version and want to try it all out for a year.

Avast used to be great. Not anymore tho.

there are so many better free alternatives to the provided software in this bundle, avast is generally pretty bleh compared to them

It’s not a bad antivirus though:

This. It is not a great antivirus and would not recommend.

Same. Threw Avast off my PC some time ago because it kept bugging me with notifications, no matter the settings.

And recently removed all mobile apps from Avast, as they don’t work like they used to a few years ago.

Yeah I only paid a dollar for the premium app just to remove ads and get web protection on my phone. The other stuff you don’t need as most of it will be bloatware and as many people have said there are better free alternatives!

From what I’ve read:It was through their subsidiary “Jumpshot”, which they shut down in response. The users did give consent through an opt-in form, though how informed they really were is always a question.

But I completely understand your point of view. Mainly, I’d expect security companies to be held to a (much) higher standard than e.g. regular websites, regarding user data. But I guess the big data business was seen as too lucrative to not bite. I have their software and don’t like the pop-ups (ads to buy premium), which seem to have increased in frequency over the years.

I just checked a review here, and from what I read, it isn’t a great VPN.

Same here  Just paid a dollar so I could just use the premium mobile app! I originally had the free avg app on my phone but hated the ads so I decided to uninstall it and pick up avast premium. I believe avg was bought by avast so in theory it should be pretty much the same experience. There’s really no reason to pay for the other stuff it’s just gonna bloat your PC and as many others have said there are better free alternatives!

Compare with Windows Defender on that list, with higher scores, lower performance costs, pretty much universal compatibility, comes installed for free on your PC, and as far as I know hasn’t promised to sell every click and every buy on every site.

It’s actually very good but it’s very hardware demanding and there are lot of conflicts with other programs.

CCleaner is still good though for cleaning the mobile cache. AFAIK it’s still developed in UK by Piriform they bought not long ago.

In fact, Avast Cleanup has actually the same code, just diffrent UI.

yeah, i was hoping it was good. cause even at 20 eur just for 1 year its half the price i would normally pay for a year with my current vpn.

oh well.
