I just downloaded AVG free antivirus for Android, and it’s telling me my phone app contains malware. Tapping resolve just prompts me to disable the app, which I can’t do even if I wanted to. Is this something I should be concerned about?
What drugs is AVG using
Of course, try looking elsewhere for more information, including in the forums. From my experience, AVG does a good job detecting threats on both Android and windows. For reasons unknown to me it has gained a bad reputation, hence the other responses in this thread, possibly these are people who have never used AVG and are simply repeating what they have seen on this subreddit or other sites.
i would say false positive, quarantine and see in phone still works before removal.
the app itself may be infected, or it’s fake. Or it’s just a false positive bc avg sucks ass
Play Protect already scans all your apps to detect malware no need for a second solution.
AVG is complete garbage software, that’s your first mistake.
When you tap three dots, what options are presented to you? Does it say the name of this app anywhere? It says it’s on system partition, what phone and OS version do you have exactly (like Xiaomi with MIUI version x.x or Samsung with OneUI version x.x etc).
That doesn’t necessarily means it has a virus, it could just be a security vulnerability that needs fixing by following any antivirus instructions, It is saying if the app you have cannot be uninstalled via normal means, you have to goto system settings menu and check security area and administrator privledges and uncheck that app in there so you can un-install it through normal means. Anything enabled in administrator privledges is locked from getting edited, this is so to prevent anything from hacking your phone, or uninstalling things automatically.
LSD and Meth Amphetamines I Think.

If it’s a false positive, and it’s quarantined to confirm the phone still works…
Why would you do that prior to removal?
Those sound like instructions prior to installation. No?
Thanks, I’ll check it out. (I uninstalled AVG shortly after I posted this)
No, stop. Don’t recommend that shit. Play Protect is dog water. Can’t detect 90% of the viruses.
PlayProtect is useless garbage. It has one of the worst detection rates in the entire industry. We’re talking neighborhood of 30% when others are scoring 99-100%… AVG (and Avast) have consistently been in the 99-100% zone.
Play Protect scans the install of APKs?
PlayProtect more like PlayPooptect
That’s BS , I downloaded a bunch of apps they can do and safe and a whole bunch of my bank information
Thanks for your opinion, but that doesn’t help me.
Nokia TA-1399 , hardware version V1.0 with Android 11. The only name I got for the phone app is Google Phone. The dots give me the options to “report as false positive” or “learn more” which opens the website that gives me more instructions on how to disable the app, which I don’t want to do. It also has the option to report an issue to AVG. I want to report a false positive, but only if it actually is.
