I live outside of China. How do I access the Chinese internet?

I live outside of China and am trying to connect into China. I have tried multiple popular VPN services with Mainland China server locations but they do not seem to be real Mainland China servers, since I am unable to access China-only services and I can still use Google and western sites on it.

Would anyone here know of a currently working solution for someone not in China to access the Chinese internet?

OP, these exist, but are not marketed to English speakers, or foreigners. Your best best is to check Mandarin speaking forums, more likely to find an answer on a board that is censored in China. You might have to set up your own VPS, although chances of finding a VPS server for rent in Mainland China that doesn’t require a Mainland ID card number for registration is extremely low.

Try lowendtalk.com they’re a VPS provider discussion forum, but lots of Chinese wall hoppers hangout there are they love to help. Results oriented people hah.

Keep in mind that VPNs into China are just as illegal as VPNs out of China, in Chinese law. So whatever solution you find, you’ll have the GFW and state apparatus passively (sometimes actively) trying to shut it down. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t, just don’t rely on it for automation.

Travel to China. It’s doubtful anyone sets up VPN services inside of China to serve Chinese propaganda to the outside world.

I never tried this myself. Theoritically, you can try to buy a budget cloud server from Tencent Cloud, Ali Cloud, Baidu Cloud the like, and set up a VPN/proxy for your personal use. They have sites in English.

I would like to know this too - managing my Chinese payment accounts and shit just does not work from the US.

To access, you need a good VPN - https://www.reddit.com/r/TheVpnEng/comments/1ia7luv/how_to_get_a_taiwanese_ip_address_from_anywhere/

For what I’ve read, VPN are blocked by the Great Firewall. Maybe you can use a proxy.

Why do you need to,Hmmm?

Maybe try this. Not sure if it’s available in English but it works for me on android with the free tier.

Find a friend to install Pfsense on a computer or rent a VPS

Thanks very infornative and Intreging…

Lmao so listening to Chinese music on Netease Music is propaganda now? :joy:

There are VPNs into China, but they are marketed to Mandarin speakers.

Not true. Even when roaming on your foreign carrier in China, traffic is still routed through Chinese ISP – the main enforcer of censorship.
