You’re running something that uses P2P traffic.

you might be having something running in the background that is P2P. I know some game launchers use torrenting protocols for updating.

Nothing wrong, sometimes it happens with Proton. You can reconnect and it will start working again.

Did you try to change your network protocol on the app? That may help

I had this happen quite a bit with the free plan as well. A couple days ago I noticed they were running a $2.99 per month sale for proton Plus if you bought it for 2 years so I bit the bullet and went with it. In my opinion having the faster VPN split tunneling and not having to worry about the P2P stuff your experiencing as well worth the $3 a month

Could be windows update.

Someone else connected to the network is P2Ping

You have what’s app installed and went to Starbucks to sit on your phone

up to my knowledge I don’t have anything like that. Could it be due to a virus?

Not sure Delivery Optimization is disallowed by ProtonVPN even though it technically is P2P.

Guess it mostly is about BitTorrent protocol.

He probably uses one of the chairs.
Sitting on phones is uncomfortable

Windows Updates. Or just lots of connections open across all your apps

WhatsApp may very well use a peer-to-peer connection. It’s not uncommon, especially for encrypted call apps.

Well, we can’t rule anything out, so it could be. BUT… It could also be something far less malicious, as others already commented: Windows Update, any software that you use and has P2P traffic that you never considered or know of.

Maybe Steam as well. It has P2P if enabled I believe

How would we know that? Admittedly, I don’t use WhatsApp, but this is the first I’ve heard of that.

This is true, hadn’t considered that. I mean i do but lube it and leave it make sure vibrates ALL THE WAY UP. Different use case tho. The giong to a coffee shop to sit on their WiFi is gayer, especially when you can be home drinking coffee using and letting META steal all your data and make a shit load of money from it. Also Vpns don’t prevent tracking or all the other misconceptions about what they do. At least he’s using a good vpn.

I’ve generally found that 1 on 1 P2P flies, but that may have changed since last I tried. but I only used remote desktop stuff.

I think Starbucks is the VPN user here.
Because if he was using it himself, he wouldn’t be blaming Starbucks.

My best guess - OP doesn’t know what he’s doing, and blames the easiest part ( not himself )
