I bought a 5yr license. It was pretty cheap. Probably for the reasons I’m about to express.
Connectivity on mobile is all over the place. My connection will be to my nearest server location. At least once or twice a week the connection just dies and is stuck in “Connecting…” and it refuses to reconnect to my nearest server.
A workaround I found is I am able to connect to second nearest server. Then wait about a day and I’m then able to reconnect back to the original closest server. I have no idea why this is the case. Maybe there’s some type of max session length per server and that’s why it won’t let you reconnect right away?
macOS app is so bad. When your Mac is put to sleep it will close network connection. Once you wake up your Mac it will restart network activity. All other VPNs will auto connect. AdGuardVPN app will freeze and crash. Every fucking time And sometimes it will refuse to connect back to the nearest server like explained in the mobile app above.
Ping is deceiving. I’ve tested a few of the severs that claim to be somewhat low ping, but in speed test it’s almost double the ping. This is a bit odd, but not a deal breaker per se.
No details on whether severs operate in RAM-only mode or even how their “custom” protocol works (besides it being obfuscated as HTTPS traffic).
This is more of a nitpick, it seems like the AdGuardVPN website just reads like “trust me bro” without giving any sort of deep technical explanation on how their VPN operates. The apps and their own protocol aren’t open source, so who knows how janky things might be.
It’s sad because I love the AdGuard adblocker and couldn’t live without it. And I hope they focus on improving their VPN offering or else I’ll have to jump ship as it’s just a terrible experience.
I use it in exception mode for sites I want to get around Geoblocks for rather than as an Always On VPN. As others have noted, there are better VPN’s out there for that purpose.
I’ve given up using it. No matter how many times I reconnect, it assigns me the same ip address as long as it’s in the same country, even though a large number of ip addresses are in the blacklist. I have reason to suspect that the number of servers that adguardVPN has is not what they advertise. I would like Adguard to publish the Detailed servers list.
I don’t really understand people in this thread. This VPN works just fine for me on Android and Windows. The speed is great. Especially for the price (bought a 10-year license on Stacksocial).
Hello! We appreciate your honest reaction and thorough, detailed message. Such posts pinpoint the weaknesses we need to focus on in the first place or, at least, reassure our plans.
Now, let me address your concerns.
What’s your OS? Presume this is an iOS Integrated mode issue, right? But apart from that, what endpoint are you connecting to? Does it happen only to a certain server or not?
We’re about to release a huge new update, so we’ll fix that.
Kindly ask you to send your speed and ping test results from here: https://speed.adguard-vpn.com/ (VPN must be OFF-line)
We do have a plan to make it open-source, stay tuned. Yet, I can’t give an exact ETA.
We look forward for you to reply. You may contact us as well via email: [email protected]
Regarding the RAM-only question, you could probably figure that by investigating which data center you’re using. Take a look at https://whoisyourvpn.com/adguard/ for instance.
This is more of a nitpick, it seems like the AdGuardVPN website just reads like “trust me bro”
Sorry for the necropost but I also find it kind of ironic that their own marketing emails contain links blocked by simple privacy controls such as ublock origin (adtidy dot org for example). I don’t trust companies that do this. It is talking out of both sides of the mouth.
There is no perfect privacy solution except to buy a bunch of land and go totally off-grid. But there are better solutions than trusting a company that uses third parties to harvest your clicks while they are warning you about the dangers of other parties using third parties to harvest your clicks.
Mullvad is a game changer. I’ve used Express, Proton, Adguard, hosted OpenVPN, etc and Mullvad blows the doors off of all of them. I can stay connected to Switzerland and notice zero impact to traffic.
