So, with the approaching tiktok ban, I was wondering if changing my Apple ID and app store to another country would allow me to update tiktok even after it’s taken off the App Store in the US. Would that work, or is this stuff based on your IP address?
Nope. You still are connecting through american pipes. If you want to access other nation’s app stores, you need to either go to those other nations and use their pipes or use a VPN.
If you’re going through that much effort just to have Tiktok, it might be a sign from the universe that you’re addicted to it. Just stop using it. You’ll be better off anyway.
I do know that if you have a VPN and TikTok already downloaded, you should be able to use it regardless! They remove the app off the store but not the phones they were on, I believe.
I downloaded pokemon go from us app store before it was available in my country so I think it will work, but iirc you need a payment method from that country to register such account.
Here’s what I do:
- Create an Apple ID for the UK
- Settings > Your name > sign out of media and purchases; re-sign in but using the UK Apple ID
- Delete TikTok from phone; reinstall TikTok from the UK App Store
- Settings > Your name > sign out of media and purchases; re-sign in using your US Apple ID
You’ll probably still need to use a VPN to have the app work once the ban starts, but doing it this way will allow the app to update, whereas using the one from the US App Store won’t get any more updates.
I’ve been doing this for a few years to access BBC iPlayer and some other UK apps that aren’t in the US App Store and it works just fine- just need to use the VPN when using them for them to work
Just make a new iCloud account and when you download from App Store set region to country in which it’s not banned . Then get a free VPN app .turn phone on airplane mode connect to a country where it’s not banned download tiktok . Disconnect vpn then in cell and a
Ie. TikTok no side loading or hacking

It doesn’t work like that; you can change your Apple ID region and use another region’s App Store.
For example, I live in Kazakhstan, but I’m using the Turkish AppStore because iCloud is cheaper here than in my country.

How do you create an Apple ID separate. I already have one for my phone and did it when I first set it up. Do I need to go to a website to create one separate. Not sure how to accomplish it on the same phone. Thanks
You can make one through Apple’s website: Apple Account
You can still use a US phone number to do so, despite it being a UK account - just make sure you select United Kingdom as the country. When you go to use it on the App Store, just enter a random address in the UK- you don’t need a payment method and can just click None when it asks for one

It’ll still update once you put your App Store back to your US account; I’ve been using BBC iPlayer like this for years and it continues to update despite being signed into my US Apple ID. In terms of once you have TikTok from the UK App Store, you do seemingly have to make a new account while connected to the VPN. They have seemingly blocked any TikTok account that was created in the US - so I am using TikTok but with a new account I had to make while connected to the UK VPN
