iPhone won’t connect to vpn

I just bought 2 year plan of Nord .
So started installing it on my devices . Alle went good , until I tried it on my iPhone 15 pro .
Installed it , logged in al good
Then when pressing connect to vpn .
Getting the message , trying to find the fastest server… and it loads and loads… then get the message , trying to connect , will not take longer than a minute .
But you guessed it , no connection .
It actually tanked my whole cellular internet connection .
Had to reboot the phone .

Is there a extra setting I need to input , isn’t it just login and go .
Or is it only available through WiFi and making vpn on my phone useless ?

Usually (at least for me), it’s as simple as logging in and connecting. However, several factors may be causing the connection issue, for example, network restrictions, ISP restrictions, interference issues, etc. A simple solution you can try is simply switching the connection protocol in the Nord app settings (Nordlynx, OpenVPN (TCP)/(UDP)) and checking if that does the trick. If it doesn’t - contact Nord’s support, it’ll be way faster than trying to find the issue yourself. Cheers!

Yea its a known bug , which Customer support wont acknowledge.

Let me guess- it keeps saying assigning ip ??

Good question. Let me know what you come up with. I’m still trying to decide between nord and surfshark. Black Friday deals coming up. I’m using an iPhone and firestick.

Hmm strange. I just downloaded mine a couple days ago since their bf deal and Rakuten 95% cash back was too good to pass up and no issues so far on iPhone 16 pro. Try playing with connection protocol I think one of the mod had mention and also choose to connect to the closes server instead of quick connecting to the “fastest connection”. Found out the fastest connection connected me to a server cross country. Once I switched back to a closer server my speed were up.

Do you have a work vpn on your phone?

Just gave it another attempt.
Switching between protocols didn’t work.
But what I did notice when on protocol Open vpn instead of Nordlynx that it got connected for a split second and disconnected again , and those this over and over again , constantly trying to find a server .

Let it run for a while , but after a few minutes connect / disconnect , I cancelled the search attempt .

I found a tread of installing an extra protocol on the phone . “ IKEv2 or something? Is that necessary to use it through cellular usage ? Because at home with WiFi it connects instantaneously. How on earth not tech savvy people gonna make use of it then … ?

Guys , it took me a while …but finally got the answer i was looking for.
After getting in concact with my ISP, why i couldnt use a vpn. They came to the following conclusion.

The problem , why the app wasn’t connecting to a server is .
Nord Vpn is still running A "OLD "Ipv4 Adresses , And my Mobile ISP is running a iPV6 adress .

I you want to check , what your adress is , you can visit at https://ipv6-test.com/
After Switching my APN on my iphone to the old standard, automatically providing me an older Ipv4 adress.

Nord vpn connected in seconds ( With the Default settings … ! ) , just like my Pc/laptop/Android-box

Makes me wonder why Nord is still running Ipv4 , when Ipv6 is a standard since 2017ish ??
“IPv6 offers better connection quality than IPv4 due to its larger address space, improved packet routing, and built-in security features”

Anyhow … im happy it works !

Will give it another go at it . But the strangest thing is . I had the impression, when trying to connect with vpn . It disabled my internet . Even do I had full service bars .
When trying to do anything internet related it didn’t load .
And gave the message no internet and your offline .
Don’t know what the cause of that could have been . Most definitely related… when I think of it. Without internet there is nothing to connect to ofcourse .
But thanks for the advice on the matter so far !

It wouldn’t connect in the first place. Just loading screen , that it was searching for a server . And end up having a phone without any data connection only cellular

Regarding the internet cut-off, it is the Kill-Switch feature doing its work, it prevents your data from leaking during the connection procedure.

In order to use the IKEv2 protocol, you’d have to set up a manual connection, which is not as convenient as the application, but should do the trick:
https://support.nordvpn.com/hc/en-us/articles/20371657885329-How-to-connect-to-NordVPN-with-IKEv2-IPSec-on-iOS

However, since there shouldn’t be such issues with the application, there’s another thing you may try. If by chance there are ISP restrictions in place, a simple DNS change should do the trick, here’s a guide:
https://support.nordvpn.com/hc/en-us/articles/20398776567313-Change-your-DNS-servers-on-iOS

However, I’d recommend putting in 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1 (CloudFlare) addresses instead of the provided ones. If you’ll give it a go, let us know how it goes!

I fiddled around some more this weekend , changed dns . Tried both cloudflare and Google .
Switched between open en nordlynx . Tried the special servers. But al gave the same result.
Only shows that’s tying to connect . Connects for a split second and disconnects and tries over . On WiFi connection in 1 sec on cellular nothing.

I was reading on Google that there a multiple people experiencing the same .
But no one seems to have the answer unfortunately.
I read reasons as in maybe ipv4 or ipv6 or that’s a eSIM and not a normal one etc… I stil can’t believe this. On my pc & laptop no problem on my shield no problem . On a phone problems sighs
