So I figured it’s pretty bad if I’m streaming Exodus content with Kodi on my Firestick (2nd gen) without a VPN. I’m considering IPVanish as my VPN
So shopping for a VPN is now up on the list. But I have so many questions. Do I get something physical in the mail that blocks the content I’m accessing? How do I install it? How do I know it’s working? Do I install it on ALL of my devices that share the same WiFi? Etc…
My home’s internet is Xfinity. And both of the Firesticks in the house are connected via WiFi to this router. But how do I set up my router to utilize the VPN? Do I have to program each Firestick with it’s own VPN?
IPVanish only allows up to 2 devices to be connected. And since both Firesticks are connected to the same Wifi router, does that mean I can connect one more device? Like say, my phone? Would this be considered 2 or 3 devices?
Any help would be appreciated! Thank you guys!
I’m unclear on something: I understand why you would need a VPN for torrenting, but why do you need one for streaming?
VPN is software, there is no physical component. I’m not sure about ipvanish, but some vpns include instructions on how to use it directly with your router so that all connections in your home are protected.
Are you telling me that watching Exodus is perfectly legal and I don’t need a VPN?
They don’t, but they’re nervous about it. Streaming pirate content doesn’t have the same risk as torrenting, which involves uploading content.
These all sound like questions for the VPN provider.
Generally people who use VPN with Kodi is to overcome geo-blocked streams
This isn’t really a good place for this discussion as I’ve gotten off the ftv topic, but generally:
No and yes, in that order.
This is explained better elsewhere, so forgive my paraphrasing. You aren’t providing anyone access to or facilitating the infringement if someone’s ‘intellectual property’, you are merely consuming it. This is the primary difference between torrenting and streaming.
I’m not advocating this of course, and I also don’t know what region of the planet you reside in.
VPNs are primarily to guard against torrenting and to region shift (when used in a media context).
I know this is a few weeks old , but I wanted to try to clarify a little bit more for you. I stopped downloading movies /TV shows months ago when we got a firestick. Just today I received a copyright infringement notice from Spectrum. The only thing we use in my house is the firestick. From everything I’ve been finding, it looks like with kodi on firestick, as you think you are just streaming, but really you downloading and sharing the content as you are watching it. I’m not sure how to change that or make the firestick go through a VPN though.
