Is it safe to permanently keep airplane mode on when using a VPN on desktop, or can it affect protecting my real IP?

Windows 10 Home, desktop, Firefox.

Hello. A friend told me today I can turn on airplane mode in order to prevent future malware on my desktop that happened to me weeks ago. Does permanently keeping airplane mode on affect how a VPN anonymizes me? I’m using a VPN now with airplane mode on and everything is working fine. But I don’t know if keeping it on all the time can affect how a VPN works in protecting my IP. Thank You.

Your friend may have been making a joke like “the best way to not get malware is to not connect to the internet.” It’s definitely true, but not that helpful. It does illuminate the central struggle with security though.

Airplane mode does absolutely nothing. If you are using a mobile device it can keep you from going over cellular. Ideally you need to connect a router to your vpn service and then disable NAT for your public interface.
