Hello, I have a spare router laying around and wanted to make it a dedicated VPN router. I am currently using all Asus routers. I would like this so I can use my main router (without a VPN) and switch to my VPN router if I have to use a VPN. I came across one forum tutorial but I would also like a video on how to do this with Asus routers so I don’t mess anything up. Could anyone link a video that helps me?
Your question is kind of too vague:
* Do you want to have a router that routes partial/all-traffic through a VPN?
* Do you want to have a router that serves VPNs to other people on the net?
The goals seem mutually exclusive unless you’re willing to change your default gateway anytime you want to use the “VPN router”. If you did it all in one router, you’d just have to disable and enable the VPN if done on a single router.
The easiest/cheapest way is to have an OpenWRT router running Wireguard. You can get a second hand router that is supported by OpenWRT and then setup everything yourself.
There are plenty of videos on youtube about this particular topic
This same guy also explains how to use PBR to only route partial traffic, so it would be possible to have both VPN-ed WiFis and regular WiFis with a single router: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FN2qfxNIs2g
Yes, I am aware of how to connect a VPN to the router itself.
I just don’t know how to set up the secondary router.
When I attempt to set it up, I don’t know if I should choose wireless router mode, repeater mode, access point, media bridge, etc.
I want my main router to stay the same and not change any of the settings. I want my secondary router to manage all the security. I don’t know what operation to choose for it, though that would make it have its own interface.
