Does anyone know of a VPN I can install on my phone that will allow me to use the remote play feature on ps5 from school? Cell service stinks here and the wifi restricts access. Not sure if it’s possible to use a VPN to somehow bypass the restrictions placed on it, but would be awesome. I know proton VPN has a premium feature to change the NAT type to moderate (type 2), but don’t want to pay for it unless I know it works. TYIA
I have used my own VPN server at home which is on the same network, VPN i use is wireguard and you just need to install the Wireguard app onto the phone you will need a static IP address or a DDNS address for it to work with port forwarding of the VPN port.
you can use a Raspberry pi with PIVPN which will generate the config for the phone and route your data to the PS5
could you explain that to me like i’m 5
You host a VPN server at your home.
Connect device that you wish to remote play from in another location using the VPN connection you will bypass any restrictions on the network your device is connected to.
Example:
VPN server at home, runnning on a rasp pi using PIVPN OS, with wireguard protocol.
iPad running wireguard protocol VPN on a school or works wifi connection
iPad is connected to the VPN server back at home bypassing the school/works network policy
iPad has remote play connected to PS4/5 at home over VPN
You can play remotely without any issue
School/ Work can only see encrypted traffic being sent and received to your iPad allowing you to remote play at school or work.
You will need to have a static IP address at home or a DDNS service if your IP address is dynamic , CG-NAT connections will not work as they are Double Nat (Type 3) with the PIVPN but other services will work like tailscale.
