Kaspersky in US

Hello everyone! Like others in the US, I had UltraAV automatically installed on my computer, which I promptly deleted. But somehow I now still have Kaspersky standard on my computer, and it’s updating the databases and letting me run scans. Has anyone else had this happen?

I didn’t get migrated, for whatever reason. I still receive updates as normal on both desktop and mobile.

I talked to Kaspersky customer support to find out if there was a way to prevent migration. They sent a couple different answers. One email said I’d be migrated to UltraAV if I was present inside the US “permanently”.

I then asked how long a period of time a user had to be inside the US for it to trigger the migration. The response email said “The migration lasted only until September 29. After this date, you will keep Kaspersky on your PC regardless of your actual location.”

It then went on to mention product updates and access to KSN would no longer be possible for users in the US. So far, this hasn’t been the case for me.

We tried telling everyone that Kaspersky is (or was) malware and a malevolent rootkit. I can’t believe so many people are acting surprised

Do any of you know how to pay for Kaspersky in the US while having the region set to Canada? Confused because the billing address would have to be the same as the card address right? Idk if anyone knows this but its def not online and iv been looking for 1 hour already.

Same with me. It’s still working and updating. Also, I never received any emails from Kaspersky regarding migration. I have their Total Security version on my PC and Android phone.

I can’t figure out why I haven’t been transitioned to UltraAV. I’m wondering if it has anything to do with my subscription is via activation codes I purchased from Newegg about four yrs ago. I got 5 and use one each year to renew. I also use a VPN which occasionally is set outside the US. Maybe they aren’t sure I’m “permanently” inside the US? Gonna ride out Kaspersky as long as I can.

try newegg.ca (Canada) and pay with paypal or similar option they offer which won’t require an address, then activate/install and manually update as needed with Canadian vpn .

I didn’t get any email from Kaspersky before all this about migration either. I’ve seen a claim made that the reason messages weren’t sent to some users is because they didn’t have an email address registered in their My Kaspersky account, but I’ve had the same email linked on there for years.

I’m curious about the activation code thing. I’ve bought codes for the Premium version for the last couple years on Amazon, sold by Amazon itself. I’ve got a few more year’s worth that I bought from Newegg. $20 a year was hard to beat!

There’s some other interesting stuff about activation codes. From what I’ve read, the place of purchase for codes can limit which countries one can activate the Kaspersky product in- codes bought from most sources in one country can be activated only in the region that code is authorized for. But according to mods on the official Kaspersky forums, codes bought from the main non-US Kaspersky site are global, and have no regional restrictions for activation.

That made me think on how much we simply don’t know about how Kaspersky’s system works, from country settings on a user’s My Kaspersky account, to location settings on a Windows desktop, to regional specifics on activation codes.

If I had to, I’d try buying a code from the Canadian version of Amazon or Newegg, and using a VPN set to Canada to activate it, linked to a Kaspersky account set up with Canada as my location, with Canada set as my location in Windows… I had a plan! But so far, thankfully, I haven’t had to try any of that. We’ll see what happens.
