Does anyone else have a spiel during check in of new PC set ups regarding the adware on new PC’s and whether the client wants us to get it off for them?
I consider all bloatware PUPs and use my given agent discretion to nuke them from orbit.
“The computer comes with a lot of trial software, often software you won’t use but will get annoying notifications about it regardless if you use them or not, would you like us to remove all that for you?”
Most of them if the client really wants them can be reinstalled with the same trial versions. Generally we uninstall McAfee, Express VPN, Dropbox, Disney plus, Omen Gaming (HP) and Wild Tangent games.
My agents remove anything except useful stock Windows apps and manufacturer support utilities like SupportAssist, Vantage, etc.
We tell clients something like “New computers come loaded with free trials and unnecessary utilities that take up space and bother you with notifications. We’re going to remove all of those for you.”
I remove most adware but I will gladly setup WaveBrowser to give the client’s computer a brand new ‘premium’ feel.
I remove bloatware that I know isn’t needed. McAfee, Express, Booking.com, WT Games, Dropbox, Disney, etc.
We’ll get rid of the salesware that you’re probably not going to want left on it from the manufacturer. - tends to be accepted.
I typically remove ALL the jank pre-installed software and get rid of the social media short cuts from the start menu. I always leave OEM support apps for updates, but I otherwise take it close to vanilla.
I used to like WT games, when I was kid, it is only way to play other games, because I don’t know, how to install other games from internet.
I uninstall all but McAfee(I do uninstall it if they have antivirus to install, and our CA’s are supposed to let the client know it’s a trial if they ask about AV)
When i worked in the precinct it was a client by client basis. Some clients would want it all gone, some clients wanted to keep it all. Just verse your CAs in asking about it and notating.
This is really what I want to do going forward. Regardless of whether it is on check in notes…
I of course jotste it on the checklist and in nova just in case any questions are asked.
I feel like a lot of our clients feel overwhelmed by choice in windows 11. All the pre set start menu shortcuts. So much fuss. Makes it hard to even feel like it’s theirs. Feels like they bought a dang ad.
I used to love wild tangent games before their platform was filled with garbage games that were churned out in 2 minutes
Hope that one’s a joke. Wave is garbage
I remove this and just let windows defender do it’s thing, because in a year that client will be back and mcafee will undoubtedly be expired, or worse yet they will have actually paid for it
When I get downvoted for making a joke
Don’t see any downvotes lmao
