NetGuard or DuckDuckGo app filter? Can't be both turned on

Being detected as a VPN, only one can work. Which is more privacy oriented? I want to block the connection of apps that I don’t use often, but also filter traffic of apps that I use.

There’s a third option: DNS based blockers. The most popular is PiHole but it’s also very inconvenient to set up. You could try the easiest ones like Adguard dns and NextDNS

I’ve been using DDG beta (no more slots available atm) on Android since it came out, in tandem with MS DEFENDER.

I have also manually selected the fastest DNS providers on my home WiFi router, focusing on the most privacy-oriented.

DDG protection is turned off for some apps by default, but I manually turned it on for all via settings.

It’s then trial and error, see what happens when you try to use an app.

Android auto wouldn’t work with protection on, so I disabled protection for that, but protection is enabled for all other Goggle app regardless of warnings, and they all still work fine.

Same for Brave browser ie protection turned off, but that has its own protections. The only other app that I had to turn protection off for was myGP.

Speeds satisfactory for me, but it’s all a balancing act.

Overall I feel that all the extras that come with DDG - for free - make it great.

DDG app tracking protection only wotks for a limited subset of apps with no explanation as to why. I’m assuming because Google would kick it off the play store if it started working for Google apps.

I’d say use the internet blocking and skip the selective ad blocking.

Adguard with Adguard VPN.

I use TC (Tracker Control) which I really like.
