Norton on msi afterburner

Hello, I simply have a question, I recently installed msi afterburner but it also included norton in its installation, I rejected it but as far as I remember, they did not offer you norton with an interface similar to that of msi center, is there somewhere that clarifies that they added norton to the application? I downloaded it from the official MSI website

Norton should be considered malware.

Just know that companies pay MSI, ASUS, Gigabyte, etc., for those product placements.

MSI and the others are not necessarily recommending or even care if you install it as they were paid already.

I’ve seen some mainstream software installs try to sneak Norton 360 in along with the install. You usually have to go to advanced options in order to uncheck it. I think people are beginning to realize that you don’t need 3rd party antivirus anymore, so Norton and McAfee are practically forcing it onto PCs during software installations.

Where tf you downloading from??

Just tried to install it, and found the same thing as OP. Now I’m a bit scared.

Did we get any word from MSI on this?

That explains why only the MSI download contains the package with Norton and the guru3d one, right?

Norton and McAfee are practically forcing it onto PCs during software installations.

How to tell someone wasn’t born in the 90s or earlier.

I was seeing that companies like Norton pay other companies to include their software in their installation packages, as is currently happening with MSI afterburner.

Where do yoi go to uninstall it in the BIOS?

no, msi didn’t say anything about it, but on the afterburner page below it says that it includes norton, so it’s safe, just don’t install norton

dont worry if u download from msi page, its safe, norton is an antivirus that normally pays companies to include it in their software, which is why it asks for administrator permissions

Not sure I understand your comment. Are you saying the guru3d site download includes an option for norton?

The author of afterburner is Alexey Nicolaychuk, a Russian developer the software. MSI pays him to develop and maintain it. He posts on the guru3d forums as unwinder.

He posted a while back (2022) about abandoning it due to MSI not being able to meet their obligations (i.e., pay him). I think MSI fixed the payment glitch (due to sanctions because of the war).

Anyway, the author of the software is active there so it makes sense that you can download it from either site.

I was born in 59, so they won’t even talk to me.

If I recall, it also happened with the MSI control center

Thanks for responding, I thought something had happened with the official website

Thanks for the quick reply. I think I’m getting a bit paranoid with PC security related stuff.

my bad, I wanted to say that Guru3d does not contain the package with Norton

What the… Don’t remember the good old days of Norton and macafee getting forced upon you anywhere you looked? Late 90s early 2000s I believe.

One can argue guru3d IS the official site.

The same thing happens to me, that’s why I did a lot of research to be at peace, it’s a pleasure to be able to help
