Opera GX randomly disconnects internet while using

So I switched to opera GX a couple months back and everything was fine. Then I started to notice that my internet connection was dropping, just randomly, and only while using the browser, not while say chatting on discord or playing a game.

At the time, I was unsure what was causing this, until I realized that my connection would only drop when using the browser, and only started when I downloaded the browser. When I was using chrome, I had no such issue.

This leads us to the present, where I’ve been dealing with it, but its really annoying, say when you’re in the middle of a chess game, or watching YouTube. I believe that it is opera GX causing this issue, because I see talk of it online with no good answers.

Using Windows 11, Opera GX. (see attached image for opera version), Please help.

I’m starting to have the same problem, but I’ve been using Opera GX for more than a year. I use Discord or play any games and it is fine, but the moment I use Opera for YouTube or something, wifi connection goes out and I need to fully reboot the PC to have wifi again, found any solution?

Same thing has been happening to me. I dunno if its because of my house(The internet would cut out in certain parts of the house for different devices) or if its just Opera. I recently switched to it a few weeks ago and had no problems until these past weeks, where the internet would randomly cut out depending on what tabs I used. This wouldn’t happen at all with everything else I used(google chrome) So I’m just confused. But seeing as other people have this same exact problem, probably means it has nothing to do with my house but Opera.

It’s possible it could somehow be Opera GX. However, Opera GX is Chromium-based and uses the same networking code as Chrome, Brave, Edge and Vivaldi for example. So, it shouldn’t behave differently in general.

Are you using Opera’s built-in VPN? Not sure how that would trigger dropped connections on your computer though.

Perhaps Opera GX is exposing some kind of instability with your network card/wifi card driver. Hard saying. Or, maybe it has something to do with Opera GX’s CPU usage. Uncertain.

Have you tried Chrome recently to see if you can get it t happen with it now? With Edge, Vivaldi and Brave?

Thanks for the help! Yeah, since opera GX is built off of chromium its quite weird this is happening.

I am not using the vpn, but thanks I hadn’t checked that. I’ve actually had it happen twice today, and it was quite annoying. I don’t think it could be CPU usage, but the instability could be it.

I’m thinking of switching to chrome for a bit, and testing it from there, thank you!
