So, I saw his videos now and then and most of the time it is about tech. His opinions always be something different than mass majority saying sometimes. On this video, he saying about 3 things which are can’t trust Antivirus Tier lists because they probably got paid by them, free antivirus mostly sucks and no internet security suite.
So most of the AV they listed is fair enough even until we get this Antivirus called Webroot which I never heard and doesn’t appear on sites like AV-Test and AV-Comparatives so quite curious now but they don’t have free version so I am okay stick with my current AV. Near the end he says if you want free AV, just stick with Windows Defender. The last thing he says is no AV will protect you because you are the one who caused it not the computer which true.
Watch the video first and give it a thought of this person’s opinion.
Apparently he is a YouTuber who discusses IT topics. From his LinkedIn profile, it looks like he has a background and some certs related to systems administration.
Kaspersky and Bitdefender are definitely better than webroot.
Move Web root down one and Kaspersky and Bitdefender up and then it’s a decent list.
The “You can’t trust free products” part is crap. I have used Kaspersky free AV for a few years and it is brilliant.
It is true that Mcafee and Norton pay websites for favorable reviews.
I just made a big post about why I don’t like defender with its stats compared to other free AVs. So I personally disagree when he says don’t buy another AV.
Check out TPSC tier list. They put Kaspersky at the top.
At the end of the day, alot of it comes down to personal preference.
I would say webroot has its pluses but i don’t think its the same tier as a bitdefender or kaspersky (or even eset). The ones i just mentioned are a more complete product imo. Its not bad like sophos av but its not top tier. Back when i used it getting the complete version it had big problems with being disabled (not sure thats the cause now) Antivirus is not useful if you can disable it.
Again i think if money is an issue free versions of any of the above are far better then just windows defender. Beware though there is a reason the product is free. (you are the product) i know avast farms the shit out of your data in its free version. (and im sure the others do as well).
I used to be a McAfee user for as long as I can remember
5 years ago I swapped to malwarebytes and was pretty happy
about a year ago I changed to Kaspersky after a lot of good reviews
Now after quite a lot of searching and looking arround it seems like the internet seems to favour Bit defender, Kaspersky and Sophos as the big 3 of AVs
Imo Kaspersky free and bitdefender free seem to be the best a user could ask for
What I will say is there seems to be a few echo chambers and a lot of market manipulation by big players paying for huge amounts of good fake reviews and fake website
It would be nice to see more genuine reviewers (other then Titus , Theo Joe and the pc security channel) analysing, testing and sharing info comparing AVs the same way gamers compare pc components
We need hard numbers on best value for money and most effective feature set and software combination in a ever growing online community
I received mcafee with my Alienware laptop already installed and I just upgraded to premium with it. I find it drains cpu want to use windows defender. Looking at your tier chart wow I feel like uninstalling mcafee. So I do this now ?
Extremely misinformed video, he unfortunately has no idea what he’s talking about in that video which is a shame as he’s usually a decent channel to watch
about a 67% detection rate.
