Own VPN safe from VPN detection and blocking?

Hi,

I want to use a vpn to access geo restricted streaming. I was doing that successfully with a paid vpn service, but that seems to have been blocked. If I made my own vpn and o make it look as info was in a different country is that likely to avoid the vpn detection or not?

Thanks

VPN detection is done by IP address. If you want an IP address outside of the US that isn’t in a known range of VPN providers IP blocks, you’d be better off having a friend or family member outside of the US host a VPN server for you.

For your VPN service, have you tried their other servers?

If you host the VPN in a remote data center, it is likely your IP address has been detected as from data center ranges by VPN detection service such as IP2Proxy.

Is it possible for you to get VPN from residential IP address?

Not possible with AWS. That’s a red flag. Like someone suggested above, ask a family or friend in a different country to host the server if it’s possible. Or you could keep trying a bunch of other paid VPNs to see if they work. A shortcut would be to see if the IP is being recognized by IPQS and what it’s fraud score is. If it isn’t being recognized, you should be safe to use it on a streaming service.

Not familiar with a “residential” vpn. Does that just mean it’s hosted on your own hardware? The issue is i’m in the US and I need it to show location outside the US for NBA international league pass. Can I do that on my own hardware? Can I mimic a “residential” vpn on a could server like AWS or digital ocean?

I guess that’s why I’m wondering about hosting it in the cloud, where I can pick a a different region where the server is hosted. Would that so the trick? Basically get a server from EC2 or digital ocean in a different country and then run my vpn on that? Though this is all very new to me, so maybe I’m missing something.

Not internationally line I need

Unfortunately, not. Most AWS IP ranges will be instantly detected by proxy/VPN detection services like IPQS : VPN Detection Test | VPN IP Address Check | VPN IP Test

You can try, but the blocks of IP addresses are available and streaming services can block them as well, such as AWS. They know that if a connection is coming from AWS, it may be a server or proxy. But also you don’t want to have to pay for bandwidth used while you stream over the cloud.

The reason residential IP addresses (from a house or apartment’s internet connection) are better is that they aren’t identified as belonging to a VPN service. The streaming service will actually think you’re at that house.

Streaming services are constantly searching for new VPN addresses to block. Your previously working VPN just had a new IP address that wasn’t caught yet. If they are putting out new servers, try the newer ones. If they aren’t blocked yet, then you can use it until you’re caught again.
