I have been using VPN for a long time, including the most expensive in the industry.
I recently decided to use the Mullvad VPN too, after saw that they already have an iPhone app.
First, they are honest. This is important to me these days.
I can say that it is an extremely affordable VPN, the price is the best, fast speed and does not dramatically affect the battery. (It is active 24/7 on my phone.) The app, both on desktop and phone, is easy to use and simple. I opened Netflix US and this is enough for me - honestly, using VPN to watch foreign catalogs is tricky even with the VPN like Express. I do now use Prime Video with VPN or HBO because their catalog is enough even without foreign. I also have no problem with reading DC Universe Infinite comics.
Torrenting is very good and have access to all torrents I use.
Talking about Express and others, Mullvad have the best speed during my personal experience. (I tried paid subscription to Ghost, Express, ProtonVPN and Nord.)
They have an iPad app too but still not optimized- I am sure this will be fixed in the future. I also would like to see more customization while using the app both on phone and desktop.
The security is also very high by my opinion as customer. No leaks, no personal data exposed. I heard and read many opinions related to Sweden and the Eyes alliance but Mullvad had such operative work that even if the authorities wants records, the VPN have noting. I was amazed by the fact that they do not want your personal data for activation.
It’s clearly one of the top VPN’s up there with Nord and Cyberghost. However, I ended up using the Nord trial a few months ago and was happy enough to stay with it. But I would be using Mullvad if not nord.
Mullvad is great for privacy and speed. If you want to look at the American Netflix from EU however, it’s not so great. But that’s not why I chose to use it. I wanted privacy and I wanted a good price where I didn’t have to sign up for 2-3 years just to get a good a deal. Mullvad is a flat-rate vpn and they clearly say who they are, who their parent company is and what they do with logging (no logs, if anyone skimps through my post). At no point in time are you required to provide any personal info when signing up, and you can even send them cash to pay for your subscription. I mean, wow!
I’m about 2 weeks into my first month with Mullvad (via Mozilla VPN) and I’m mostly very satisfied. My previous VPN got blocked on a bunch of sites but so far the only one of those I’m blocked from is Etsy, and only on 1-2 of the VPN nodes.
I can definitely see myself continuing with my subscription.
Log out of any Google accounts, including Chrome browser. Google caches your IP address and can reveal your true location to Netflix.
Disable GPS and any other location-based services on your device and browser. If you’ve given Netflix permission to use your location in the past, you’ll need to disable the permission in your browser settings.
Clear your browser cookies, cache, and temp files. We’ve got tutorials for both clearing your cache and clearing your cookies for all the major operating systems.
Disable IPv6. This is mainly for Windows 10 users, but may cause problems on other operating systems as well. In Windows 10, you can disable IPv6 in your Wifi properties.
Flush your DNS cache. In Windows, open Command Prompt as an administrator and enter the command: ipconfig /flushdns
Change your device’s time zone to the country’s in which you’re trying to watch Netflix. Japan’s time zone is UTC+9.
If you are connected to a wifi network and can access the router, rename the wifi network, or SSID. Add “_nomap” to the end of the network name, without quotation marks. This will opt your wifi network out of Google’s geolocation services. You will need to reconnect your device to the updated network to regain internet access.
Disconnect and reconnect to the server location to see if you can get a different IP address.
Great tips! Curious if you’ve tried mullvad to watch geo restricted content on Shield. If so, would love to hear about any Shield specific tips. I’m going try clearing the cache and change the time zone.
I have the shield and was using Mullvad. I did have a lot of time outs /dropouts, no connection. Not so much with plex but Pluto tv and other Tv streaming apps. Changed to windscribe I don’t seem to have that problem anymore. Maybe my area of the world (aust) . I’m going to try different VPNs see who’s better.
EDIT:
On saying that……I’m now not keen on windscribe. Think having a VPN out of communist Canada is asking for trouble. Back to Mullvad. Don’t think I’ll change. Stick with what I know works
