Port forwarding feature on AdGuard VPN?

Hello everybody :waving_hand:

I won’t beat around the bush and go straight to the point: without the port forwarding feature, all P2P programs, especially those ones for torrenting, will always work smoothly with AdGuard VPN enabled, except eMule.

The reason is simple: eMule needs to have its TCP and UDP ports opened not only in the router, but also in the VPN, otherwise ED2K and Kademlia networks will always connect with low ID (the two famous yellow arrows).

So, my question for you, members of the AdGuard staff, is: will you ever consider the possibility to include port forwarding in AdGuard VPN in the future?

Thank you very much in advance to anyone who will answer me :folded_hands:

One comment about EMule. I use another VPN with port forwarding (incl. TCP and/or UDP). But my only solution is split-tunneling/bypass the VPN for this application, port forwarding is not the problem, it’s an emule software problem. If emule is the only software that require port forwarding, this will probably not fix your emule problem. I use, e.g. Retroshare and Soulseek too. Both works without problems behind the VPN)

What’s the eMule VPN problem?

Open emule, toolbar button Tools->IP filter.

I don’t know the IP range from the AdGuard VPN, but the IP from my VPN is in this list.

Disable your IP Filter or delete the entry from your list is pointless, because the IP is still in the list from all other users.

You see this in emule too. If you open the kad overview there is this graphical overview with the red/green dots and connection lines. EMule can find other KAD notes (If the router and VPN have the correct port setup), but the other nodes reject your connection, only red dots.

Maybe you have luck, if the Adguard VPN would have port forwarding, the IP is not in this list, but maybe you have no luck.

Oh, ok, so, port forwarding would not be the ultimate solution for using eMule without being monitored, undestood, thanks :+1:

However, just out of curiosity, which eMule version are you using?

0.50a. I know there are newer versions. Downloaded but still not installed.

EDIT: Installed the community version 0.7 a few moments ago. Strange… yellow arrows for both icons. :expressionless:

Well, you should test it ASAP, because, maybe, this issue has been fixed.

Version 0.50 has been released 13 years ago and many new things have arrived with newer versions, such as optical fiber connection full compatibility and 64 bit architecture.

Latest version is 0.70a: Releases · irwir/eMule · GitHub

tested it, works now, both icons green.

But not without split tunneling.

So, port forwarding is useless without split tunneling?

Dammit :slightly_frowning_face:

Thank you very much for your kindness and helpfulness :folded_hands:

At least I can’t get it to work.

VPN on with port forwarding=both icons yellow.

VPN with eMule split tunneling or VPN disabled=both icons green.

Other applications, port forwarding in VPN, no problems.

The emule forum is a little bit strange, some people say it works with VPN, maybe my theory with the IP filter is wrong?

However, that’s not the answer for the question if Adguard VPN have split tunneling.
