I need to use custom DNS on a couple of my devices, but that’s not possible with Eero Secure since it takes over DNS. Is it possible to exclude a device (or a profile with many devices) from Eero Secure? If so, how? If not, can I request this to be added as a feature?
What kind of devices? If a PC, Mac, iPhone or modern (9+) Android device, you can use DoH or DoT. Yoga DNS is a good app for Windows. Android has Private DNS baked in to settings, MacOS (Big Sur) and iOS (14+) have system level support as well.
Why not manually set a static dns on your device?
Hello u/afx114,
There is currently not a way to get around eero Secure taking over DNS while it is active. It is part of the security that is required on our system for eero Secure to work correctly. If you would like you can request being able to have an exclude list for eero Secure by emailing [email protected] and we will escalate the ticket generated up to our engineering team for review.
Thank you,
eero Support
AppleTV. But it doesn’t matter. Secure overrides any custom DNS.
Even if you did this eero would snag the DNS traffic and route it through secure if it’s enabled.
Try DoH on your Apple TV.
It only overrides regular dns (e.g. outbound to port 53). you can use DoT/DoH on compatible devices.
Yep I’ve done that, but Secure captures it.
Then why is it that one of my Macs has issues accessing Mac App Store with EERO secure DNS and when I change the DNS on the mac to google DNS The App Store problem goes away
Your right. When I tested it I was as using a vpn.
