Pricing secure access

Pricing is 6 usd p m
What you guys think worth it?
Its not the norm VPN but more total solution, but regular VPNs are cheaper

They need to expand on the offering of the ‘Secure Access Essentials’ SKU. It’s not as mature as other solutions to warrant the price they are asking. Simple things like Private DNS and UDP missing (I know these are in private preview but I wouldn’t have gone GA without them).

They’ve removed the ‘Preview’ heading from the Global Secure Access blade in Entra, but it still very much feels like a preview until core functionality is offered.

I’m sure an official announcement is imminent but from the Secure Access Essentials SKU description googled off one resellers website:

“Brings unique subset of capabilities from two products Microsoft Entra Internet Access and Microsoft Entra Private Access to a new combined SKU called ‘Secure access essentials’ as a seeded/included value into Microsoft 365 E3. There will also be a standalone SKU for these combined capabilities. While this new standalone SKU will be publicly listed (due to CELA requirements), in terms of marketing, it won’t be promoted. With ‘Secure access essentials’, customer will be able to enhance security, visibility, and performance for Microsoft 365 access, and extend modern Conditional Access controls with multi-factor authentication (MFA) to on-prem applications when user is local on corporate network”

Which to me reads:

  • It’s going to be included with Microsoft 365 E3
  • it’s going to use the Private Access part to bring CA/MFA to your on-prem apps that use Kerberos auth against AD
  • it’s not however going to give you remote access to apps (so not a VPN replacement, if you want that you’ll need the full Private Access SKU)

Complete speculation but that’s my guess.

I’ve also seen VAR listings. I expect the ‘Private Access’ part retained as part of the Essentials SKU (bundled with E3 upwards) will be what was ‘Azure App Proxy’ - so just HTTP/HTTPS.

Guess it’s just a waiting game. Microsoft bods did say a blog post would be coming this week.

Do you know if more has been released? We are interested in the securing of o365 as well as onprem SMB (or onprem smb over quic). Business Premium won’t include this eh? Thanks!

The Entra ID P1 license (as of yesterday) includes use of Entra Internet Access for Microsoft Services (aka M365 traffic), they should be getting the GSA docs page updated shortly.

Think they’re having issues getting the Kerberos auth against AD bits stable, but hopefully that’ll come later.
