I have a testbed where I run Proton VPN and also have to run Norton 360. Unfortunately I can not establish a VPN connection as long as Norton 360 is running. Deactivating Norton Firewall solves the issue, but this is no solution as I have to run Norton 360.
Proton VPN jumps always between “Waiting for network” “Initialising…”. Sometimes it works, but 9 out of 10 fail.
Any idea/solution?
I would ditch Norton 360. Seriously. Peter Norton and John Socha made some of the most well written software ever, back in the DOS days. So compact, so fast. Seriously, the best software for Microsoft products I’ve ever used. But that was the 1980’s and 1990’s. Norton sold the name and now Symantec is just horrible.
You could just keep the Norton firewall disabled and use the Windows firewall, that Proton was designed to work with. Unless you are putting your PC directly on the internet, your router’s firewall is doing 99% of the work anyway. The local PC firewall is mostly just protecting your from other computers on your LAN, which shouldn’t be much of a threat.
You are right, I usually do not use Norton 360 at all, but in this special case, with my test bed I have to use it, so ditching it is not an option. But permanently disbling the firewall might be an option.
