Just sharing for those who are looking at VPNs for various reasons! Some additional information below from Android Police and from Proton themselves. Proton btw announced earlier this year they are moving to a non-profit foundation. They are generally good eggs.

The free version only offer servers in three countries, you can’t change your server repeatedly(it will put you in a short timeout) if you don’t like that server. You don’t get full speed but it is good enough to stream 4K.
The funding for this comes from people that pay for the full version with more options in privacy, a ton more servers to choose from in different countries.

They also have a free and paid encrypted email service as well. Security is pretty much what they do and they do it well.
That and the fact that they are in a race with Google to make the world’s fugliest web browser.
