I use Proton VPN when downloading cracked content to prevent my ISP from throttling my speeds. At first Proton VPN and Internet Download Manager were working great and speeds were good, but over the last three days I’ve been fighting more and more to get the two to work, often having to connect to the VPN first, killing the IDM process and restarting it to get my downloads to work. But now it flat out refuses to work. If I’m connected to the VPN, then IDM tells me to basically go fuck myself, but when I’m off the VPN, then IDM works no problem but speeds get throttled.
Why would these two apps stop working together all of a sudden and what can I do to fix it? because Google has nothing on this

When researching how to optimize download speeds for torrents and other non-mainstream sources, almost always the first recommendation is getting a VPN for that very reason. After my initial successful use of Proton VPN with IDM, my download speeds were at least 5x faster when using the VPN and less than dial up connection when not using the VPN (tested this on the same single download), so I have no reason to doubt those recommendations from multiple sites. I know my ISP is not throttling me entirely because downloads and updates on Steam and Play Store achieve full potential of my fibre line, and other mainstream sites have connection speed issues at all
