Removing the support for forwarded ports - Blog | Mullvad VPN
Mullvad has extended their refund period for users affected.
Write to them here and ask for a refund: [email protected]

As someone, who’s forced to use a VPN for torrenting (Germany) this really hits hard. I guess I will have a shitty torrenting experience from now on.
I just bought a year of subscription (through voucher). How can I ask for a refund?
I bought mullvad specifically for the port forwarding and now I have a year worth of a service that doesn’t comply for what I had signed up.
It was fun while it lasted. Port forwarding is vital to using the bittorent protocol. So I’ll be looking elsewhere. It’s a shame because Mullvad provided such a good service up until this point
While I understand that the feature has to be removed, mullvad should really be offering refunds outside of the 30 day limit to those who bought the service specifically for port forwarding. Honestly feels like I have kinda been scammed.
EDIT: I contacted support and they are refunding me, so that is good at least.
God fuckin’ damnit, man.
Allow me a rant now, just a brief one, as a disappointed Mullvad customer. What Mullvad just did asserts a dangerous principle: if an online service or a technology can be abused by some people, then suspend that service for everyone.
How long before this principle is extended to Tor hidden services, end to end encryption, p2p in general, or VPN services themselves, by leveraging precisely the wretched behavior of the same actors (Mullvad today, others in the past) offering and then suspending that same service?
This is very unfortunate, port forwarding was one of the reasons why I decided to stick with mullvad for this long. Sadly I’ll have to find another vpn provider, but I’ll always still recommend mullvad to everyone that doesn’t need port forwarding.
This is why we can’t have nice things. You know who you are - you borked it for all of us.
This is 100% users sharing csam on Mullvad’s servers. Look at iknowwhatyoudownload and see all the cp torrents being shared. There’s no way Mullvad could outrun that for very long. Blame Mullvad, but it’s the sadistic fucks sharing sadistic material that caused this.
Any suggestions for another vpn service?
This is bad for all p2p users, as you won’t be able to connect to other peers that have their port not forwarded.
There are alternative providers, but only a few care about your privacy like Mullvad.
Ivpn is a good one. With port forwarding, anonymous sign-up and payment (xmr), strict no-logging. But you need an expensive pro-account ($10) for port-forwarding.
Port forwarding is the only reason I use mullvad
wtf mullvad? I have just purchased a year of subscription for this? anyone knows how to get a refund?
Well now I have to change VPN service as well… Shame, I love Mullvad
If this means their hosting providers won’t cancel them, I think it is a good outcome. I want Mullvad to survive, for legitimate privacy, not abuse masked as privacy.
This is really a shame. I bought a year worth that is now worthless.
i don’t really understand this port forwarding.
as someone who does very light stuff. occasional seedbox download. private browsing, what does this mean for me?
I’m so lucky that the day after I started using Mullvad for qBittorrent this happens.
Any cool alternatives with WireGuard and Port forwarding that also happens to support Brazil?
