When we released our Linux app out of beta a couple of weeks ago, we said we’d be releasing Secure Core in the coming months. We’re happy to announce we’re ahead of schedule: it’s now available on our Linux app.
We’re also hiring a Linux desktop developer so we can meet the community demand for Linux. If you or someone you know might be interested, please check out the job post here.
If you’d like to make a contribution to the online privacy movement another way, we’re looking for volunteers to be Fedora package maintainers. You’d be uploading packages at each release. Please send us an email at [email protected] with the subject line, “Fedora Package Maintainer,” if you’re interested!
For more information, please check out our blog here: https://protonvpn.com/blog/vpn-linux-app/.
As always, your feedback matters to us, so please keep the comments below coming.
Thanks, and thought you might like see the above, keep up the good works guys!

How to solve this?
Okay, I think I’m missing something. On version 4.4.4, I don’t see any option for Secure Core like I do on the macOS app. How do you enable it?
It’s nice to see some movement for Linux, even though I don’t use it.
It’s also nice to see some on the uservoice with a lot of old suggestions marked as done and a new CLI marked as planned. The uservoice still feels kinda neglected, but it’s getting better.
When is split-tunneling coming, and killswitch to the desktop app? already there that i’m not aware of?
Does the linux app actually work now? I kept getting buggy authentication prompts and stuff and it was unusable on both the GUI app and command line about 2 months ago, i reverted back to the community CLI instead, is it worth trying the official CLI again?
Ty proton for all your hard work! I rely on permanent kill switch to manually block all traffic whenever I need so I will continue using the old app until this is implemented. Very excited for the future though! Thanks again.
Split tunneling:
Split Tunneling won’t be possible with the current backend (Network Manager) as that is just not technically feasible, but once we get the native backends that will definitely be possible. But the rest, will be there in due time.

Killswitch is there. Permanent killswitch isn’t yet:
You might have an incorrect assumption about how the KS works. The permanent state (which in the v4 is not currently implemented) doesn’t allow any connection to be established regardless if it was an accidental drop or you’ve manually stopped it. While the non-permanent state is there only to prevent accidental drops and not when you press on the “Disconnect” button.

Regarding permanent kill-switch it’s something that we’ll work in the coming months

Kill Switch is already out, split-tunneling not(and seems super difficult to implement)
