Setting up Surfshark on Steamdeck?

So I’ve used linux before but am having some trouble getting Surfshark to install on the steam deck. I’ve downloaded the package on surfshark’s website, but the sudo get apt commands aren’t working. I’ve read now that the install instructions were designed for debian linux… What do I do?

same. I’m following this, but I can’t find “VPN Connections”

Nvm, got it done. Use the manjaro guide.

Late reply but looking for a Surfshark solution for Steam Deck desktop. Any luck finding a fix?

There is a program called alien in Linux that converts deb files into packages for other distributions. You can try that

First look if it the app is in the Discover store since that would be the easiest solution, otherwise look for an install instruction for Arch since that what SteamOS is based on.

If you setup a wireguard VPN, you don’t need to install anything on Linux.

How does one update surf shark on steam deck

Right click on the Network button (wifi one) > Configure Network Connections > click on the + button (add a new connection) > scroll down to “Import VPN connection” > import the .ovpn file you downloaded using the manjaro guide > add the user and password from SurfShark VPN manual setup > connect.

Hope it helps!

Pd: I use a password manager and when I was getting the user from surfshark VPN it replaced it with my email. Make sure you are getting the user they give you. It looks like a bunch of letters and numbers.

Hope it helps someone else!

It says I cannot perform this operation unless I am root. This is literally on the first step. How do I proceed?

Do you have a link for this guide? Looking to setup SurfShark on Steam Deck . Thanks in advance.

i know i am 3 months late to answering this, but surfshark does have browser extensions that work on firefox and other browsers on steam deck in desktop mode…

From what I’m aware of, there is currently only a temporary fix. Any time a system update comes through, it will overwrite the VPN config added. But it can be done. I’m having trouble finding the source of this solution. I decided to just do any torrent downloading I want to do on my laptop, and then transfer to the deck via a USB C flash drive for now.

I’ll have to check that out! Thank you!

Tbh, I forgot how to set it up. Haven’t needed to use VPN on my Steam Deck for a while.

Thanks for sharing link. I got it working on two different locations.
