Right now I use sophos for web protection, I started using avg antivirus less and less (free version) is it even worth using right now?
Does it have any pros compared to Google play protect and samsung in built AV?
I would be happy if someone recommended me a better AV for free.

Free versions : malwarebytes, even though it has only manual scans. (Windows defender should be enough for real time protection)
Paid ones : Kaspersky has a slight edge over the others

u/Even_Fix7399 if you aren’t downloading anything dodgy or visiting suspect websites then you don’t need any additional protection. Google Play Protect and the in built Samsung offering are more than sufficient.

As he said, there’s not much to add on a phone, except not downloading suspicious stuff. maybe check with virustotal first.
but if you insist on anti virus : here’s Kaspersky free https://www.kaspersky.com/downloads/free-antivirus, which is really free, unlike bitdefender in which you pay with ads, just make sure to select kaspersky for android.
Also you could maybe add to your security by using a secure browser, like brave or hardened firefox instead of chrome, although it won’t change much

-You can download bitdenfeder, but it will make you pay with ads if you want the free version.
Both are solid choices, it comes down to your personal preferences.
Bitdefender is known for its aggressiveness with many false positives (it will alert you about viruses when the file is actually legit) but for some people it’s better to be safe than sorry.Also many people don’t mind to pay with ads.
Kaspersky has slightly better discovery rate than bitdefender (but not significan’t) which puts at the top. next to no false positives. you pay absolutely nothing in anyways for the rest of your life.
but the KGB is behind it (duh) and you would have to download it through a browser not playstore.
and since you have samsung, it’s available on samsung store that is built-in in your phone
