I’ve been having issues with connecting to FFXIV – no matter what datacenter I choose, as soon as I click the “start” button in the client, my game won’t connect and spits out a 2002 error and then closes. SE support said it’s an issue with my connection. Comcast says everything is fine.
So, I tried a VPN, and lo and behold, my game runs flawlessly. SE support said I can have Comcast reroute my connection, but they refuse to do so. I don’t want to pay for both a VPN and my subscription on top of other expenses. : /
Is there a free (or cheap) VPN out there that isn’t riddled with viruses?
Cheap VPS (virtual server) droplet from Digital Ocean in your country of choice. Install OpenVPN-AS on it. Voila, $5 a month for a VPN that you have full control over (therefore trustworthy) and that works just fine with FFXIV.
They even have cages in Toronto (for NA) and Frankfurt (for EU) so your endpoint can be as close to the Montreal (Aether/Primal) /Frankfurt (Chaos) datacentres as possible.
Happy to give some advice setting one of these up if you would like. Maybe I should write a guide or something. /shrug
