So lately I started to notice that more and more sites are not working when I’m connected to Mullvad VPN. This is starting to really annoy me as the whole point of a VPN is to keep your privacy and if I have to switch it off to access more and more sites then what is the point. Is there a workaround for this? Has anybody else notice this. I am not very knowledgeable with VPN so all my settings are factory configured so please let me know if there is something I am doing wrong.
I’d suggest you start with posting some website examples that don’t work and server you’re connected to when you’re trying to access them.
Please post the URL for one site you have issues with.
That’s not the vpn’s fault but the site. Many block users from using vpns, and even have IP ranges and such.
On occasions my connection stalls, just switch server give it a few seconds to connect and we’re off again
Beginning yesterday I can no longer login to fidelity.com.
Fidelity says it’s not their problem - it’s a VPN problem.
These are some of the websites I have issues with. There were plenty more I encountered but forgot the name. Will update this list as I find more
Should I just post them here? Do you have a thread that is dedicated for this or do I just create a new thread everytime? I don’t mind posting if it helps create a better experience.
Okay, only using a VPN will only change the trust from your IPS to your VPN provider. IPS’s collect everything you do, sometimes even required by law. I do trust Mullvad a whole of a lot more than any ISP.
If you than make sure you don’t leak DNS and take measures against fingerprinting you are on the right track. Even if you do not do that, using a VPN does help a bit.
So laughing away a VPN away doesn’t stand any ground imo.
Yeah, you can just post them in the comments or update your OP.
There can be multiple reasons why a website won’t work with a VPN, but often it’s because the website blocks VPNs or specific servers. This is something outside of a VPN provider control.
If it’s general connectivity issues, step number one would be trying a different VPN protocol. On Windows it defaults to OpenVPN when set to Automatic but you can switch to Wireguard by going to the app settings → VPN settings and change tunnel protocol to Wireguard.
Yeah I know that it is outside of VPN provider control, but at the same time if more and more sites start doing it then the VPN will become useful only for torrenting and nothing else.
